1) Create a bass track and select a bass instrument. 2) Create a basic root-note bassline by playing the root notes of each chord in the sequence. Follow the harmonic rhythm. 3) Create a bass groove or rhythmic pattern and record the root-note bassline.

Preliminary Task: Create Bass track

a) Click plus symbol:

b) Add software instrument: click


‘create’

c) Select bass & choose your bass


instrument from list. (Finger-style Bass recommended):
Task 1: Basic Root- Note Bassline

a) Work out the root notes to the chords in your


sequence.
This can be done in the edit region by clicking the bottom note of
each chord in your sequence:

These are the notes for your bassline!

b) Using your bass instrument practice playing the


root notes in the order of your chord sequence.
Follow the harmonic rhythm!!!!!!

c) Create a bass groove (rhythmic pattern for bass to follow)

Tip: follow bass drum pattern if you are unsure


d) Record!!!!
Task 2: Adding other notes

Create Funkier Basslines by:

a) Adding the highest note of a chord into your bass


line just before harmony changes to the next chord:

b) Running Ocatves: Popular in disco, this bassline


uses root note of chord and the same note 8 notes
higher in a running 8th note pattern:

c) Note run/ Scalic pattern: use notes in between
each chord to create a run just before harmony
changes (sometimes known as ‘walking bass’):
