THE EARTH

Here are the major dividing lines we use to seperate the Earth

Are these lines real or imaginary?

Seasons
The Earth is tilted 23.5 Our Seasons are caused by the tilt of the Earth (are we tilted towards or away from the Sun) And Earths position in its orbit around the Sun

Solstices
The two days when the Suns direct rays are furthest away from the equator The longest day of sunlight (around 14 hours) and the shortest day of sunlight (around 9 hours)

Equinox
The two days when the Suns direct rays are hitting directly on the equator The amount of sunlight is equal everywhere on the planet 12 hours

When are we closest to the Sun?

Perihelion (January 3rd) Earth is closer to the Sun on this day in its orbit (147,166,462 km) Aphelion (July 4th) Earth is further away from the Sun on this day in its orbit (152,171,522 km)

Revolution
The movement of a planet or object in space around another larger object (usually a star or planet) We use the term orbit to describe this process We call this 1year or 365 days

Rotation The movement of a planet or object in space about its axis We call this 1 day or 24 hours

Kepler came up with 3 laws to describe planetary motion We only need to worry about his 1st law 1st Law: The orbits of the planets are ellipses, with the Sun at one focus of the ellipse.
