2010 Clariant Corporation
Clariant offers a broad range of surfactants to be used as emulsifiers in the emulsion polymerization process. Products from the EMULSOGEN, GENAPOL, HOSTAPUR and HOSTAPHAT series allow the control of particle size distribution and foaming properties, improve electrolyte and freeze-thaw stability and reduce grit formation.
Nonionic Emulsifiers
Nonionic emulsifiers contribute to the stability of the polymer latexes in two ways: They reduce the amount of coagulum formed during the polymerization and improve the final latex properties by enhancing the electrolyte and shear stability. Furthermore the presence of non-ionic emulsifiers is beneficial for the freeze-thaw stability of polymer dispersions. Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylates The Emulsogen range serves as efficient emulsifier in the polymerization of pure acrylic, styrene-acrylic and vinyl acetate latexes as well as for the manufacture of styrene-butadiene latexes. The Emulsogen range offers ideal alternatives to the standard nonylphenol ethoxylates (NPEs) used in emulsion polymerization. Product

Anionic Emulsifiers
Anionic emulsifiers have a strong influence on the polymerization rate and have a direct impact on particle size and particle size distribution. Common types of anionic surfactants used in emulsion polymerization are sulphate esters, either as alkyl sulfates or in the form of alkyl ether sulfates.
