TUBESETTLER TECHNOLOGY
What is clarification?
A process that removes suspended particles having density greater than the fluids.
Used to remove readily settling sediments such as Sand, Silt and Ash Coagulated impurities such as colour
H VS H`
using physical process. Employs physical/chemical treatment and utilizes special flocculation & sedimentation systems to achieve rapid settling.
Advantages of High Rate Clarification
low
retention time Compact Units Lesser area requirement Rapid start time. Highly clarified effluent is produced.

TUBE SETTLERS
TUBEdek is a PVC tube settler for installation within settling tanks, provides enhanced capacity for settling suspended solids.
2. The residence time within each tube must be ample 3. The velocity of flow through the tubes must not exceed a critical maximum
Principle of Operation
v
L
V = Velocity of particle in direction of flow. Vs = Settling velocity of particle. VR = Resultant velocity of particle. L = Length of Tube.
VR
VS
120mm X 44mm
1. How do you select the vertical height / Length of Tubesettler? Depends on the volume of settleable solids SV. For SV 100ml/l VH: 500 mm. For SV 10 ml/l- VH: 1000mm.
Vs = 0.7H/Ts
2. How is the Settling Velocity determined? The settling velocity of a spherical particle is expressed by Stokes Law. In general the settling is opposed by (a) The velocity of flow which carries the particle, (b) The viscosity of water. The viscosity varies inversely with temperature. Warm water is less viscous and, therefore offers less resistance to settlement. (c) The size, shape and specific gravity of the particle. Hence, the Settling velocity can be determined by vs = g d2 (p - f )/ 18 for d < 0.1mm
Where, vs = velocity of settling particle m/s. d = diameter of the particle in m. p =specific gravity of the particle f =specific gravity of the fluid = dynamic viscosity of fluid
3. What is factor of safety? The Settling velocity formula gives the theoretical settling velocities of discrete spherical particles. The actual settling velocity in the clarifier is much less than those calculated by formula because of : (a) Non sphericity of the particle (b) The upward displacement of the fluid caused by the settling of other particles (c) Convection currents. Generally, factor of safety should be 0.7 0.8 for good settle able solids 0.6 0.7 for medium settle able solids 0.5 for bad settle able solids
4. How much SLR to be used for designing? Surface Loading Rate is that flow velocity at which the clarifier is designed to operate. The SLR is the limiting factor for dimensioning of tube settler. This will adjust the laminar flow conditions for the carrier fluid through tubes. For WTP SLR: 4 7 m3/m2/hr. For ETP / SST SLR: 2.5 4 m3/m2/hr.
