I'm delighted that you're interested in Grandma and her work. I have carbon= ed lots of people on this message who might be helpful.=A0
My mother, Harriet Arnold Buttry, whom I mentioned in the same blog post, i= s still alive but has Alzheimer's disease and her memory would not be relia= ble now, whatever she might remember of Grandma's work (and she does still = reread "Not My Will," so she does have some recollection of Grandma as a wr= iter). In her assisted-living apartment now, she has a large piece of furni= ture where she keeps her collection of family writings (more soon on the ot= her family writers). I know that had some magazine articles about Grandma (= I'm pretty sure Mom wrote at least one), as well as all of her books. I don= 't know when I will be visiting Mom next, but I have visited her a couple t= imes this year and I know that my siblings (Dan and Don Buttry and Carol De= vlin) might visit her before I do and also might have some things to send y= ou. If so, I know we will gladly look through Mom's collection and make pho= tocopies of any materials that would be helpful. I think Mom probably has the most extensive collection of Grandma's materials.
Shirley Worgul is Grandma's only surviving child who could be directly help= ful. She lives in Lansing, Mich., and may have a more extensive collection = of Grandma's materials than Mom has.=A0
Florence Arnold, Grandma's daughter-in-law, is also alive and might also be= helpful. Her husband, Grandma's only son, was Air Force Chaplain Frank M. = Arnold Jr., whose World War II diary also appears on my blog. I don't recal= l that Uncle Frank wrote any books, but wouldn't be surprised if he did. Hi= s three children are all carboned here and might have something to add.
Grandma's other daughter, Helen Hoel, died in the 1970s or '80s and I have = not been in touch with her son or daughter for several years.
Whether we credit Grandma for genetics, inspiration, example or all three, = her family has certainly followed her as writers:
As I mentioned, my mother wrote a few magazine articles. As you know, I am a journalist and blogger. Dan Buttry, my older brother, is an author of seven non-fiction Christian b= ooks, with an eighth coming out soon (this year, I think, but I'm sure Dan = can elaborate, and correct me if I missed a book or two). Doug Worgul, Shirley's older son, is the author of Thin Blue Smoke (a novel= that is getting excellent reviews; it has strong themes of faith and redem= ption) and some other books about barbecue and quilts. (Doug lives in the K= ansas City area, not far from Mom, and might be able to take a look through= her collection of family writings for some articles about Grandma.) Jan Worgul Ackerson, Shirley's daughter, is a book editor and writes the de= lightful blog One Hundred Words.I know I've left out some writing in-laws, = including my wife, and probably some others who have written for magazines = and such (fill Brian in, family, if I've left any notable holes). But you g= et the point: Grandma had a profound effect on the subsequent generations o= f her family (two of my sons are good writers), both as a writer and as a C= hristian voice.
I have attached some photos of Grandma: a wedding photo, a family photo, a = photo of her and Grandpa in the 1950s and a photo of her with her
daughters= , probably in the 1960s. Here is the obituary of her husband, Frank M. Arno= ld. Here is a two-page letter to Grandma from Uncle Frank, which you may us= e if Aunt Florence gives her consent.=A0
And perhaps your inquiry will nudge me to blog some more memories of Grandm= a. She was really a remarkable woman and deserves a higher digital profile.= But for someone who died 40 years ago this month to have a book that ranks= in the top 600,000 on Amazon is pretty amazing.
I'll close with a couple of anecdotes: My father was in the Air Force and w= e were stationed in Japan in the 1960s. On a trip once, Mom and I stopped i= n a Christian bookstore in Tokyo or Sapporo. I spotted a book whose cover w= as entirely in Japanese except the author's name on the back spine: "France= na H. Arnold." I picked the book up and held it up in front of my face, as = though I were reading it without my glasses. When Mom was coming over to ge= t me to move along, she saw it (the name was even bigger on the front cover= , of course) and squealed, "That's Mom's book!" That's one of several trans= lations of Not My Will in Mom's collection of family writings. =A0
Thanks for your inquiry about Grandma. I'm hoping some of the rest of the f= amily will contribute further, and I will definitely keep you in mind next = time I visit Mom.=A0

I am currently doing research for Professor Gre= g Jackson, who writes about popular Christian fiction of the 19th and 20th = century, and I am looking for information about Francena Arnold's novel "No= t My Will" (1946). I stumbled across your blog while I was searching, and s= aw that you mentioned Ms. Arnold was your grandmother and a wonderful story= teller. I was wondering if your family might be willing to share any old pu= blished documents about her books you might have. I ask because there is ve= ry little information about her online, which is surprising given the conti= nued popularity of her books (many bloggers mention "Not My Will" as a long= -time favorite). I would love to see some popular articles about "Not My Wi= ll" or any of her other works. I am currently doing research for Profes= sor Greg Jackson, who writes about popular Christian fiction of the 19th an= d 20th century, and I am looking for information about Francena Arnold's no= vel "Not My Will" (1946). I stumbled across your blog while I was searching= , and saw that you mentioned Ms. Arnold was your grandmother and a wonderfu= l storyteller. I was wondering if your family might be willing to share any= old published documents about her books you might have. I ask because ther= e is very little information about her online, which is surprising given th= e continued popularity of her books (many bloggers mention "Not My Will" as= a long-time favorite). I would love to see some popular articles about "Not My Will" or any of her other works. Something like a newspaper or mag= azine book review, an interview, or a biographical article about Ms. Arnold= would be ideal.

If you would be willing to share any documents I w= ould really appreciate it.
