Sources World Fuel Additives is based on a comprehensive industry study published by The Freedonia Group in December 2012. Reported findings represent the synthesis and analysis of data from various primary, secondary, macroeconomic, and demographic sources including: firms participating in the industry government/public agencies national, regional, and international non-governmental organizations trade associations and their publications the business and trade press The Freedonia Group Consensus Forecasts dated June 2012 the findings of other industry studies by The Freedonia Group. Scope & Method
The product scope of World Fuel Additives is defined as products added to fuels to enhance specific properties. Total product demand is provided in kilograms and segmented by type in terms of: oxygenates specialty fuel additives. Certain commodity products that also function as blending components, such as ethanol and biodiesel, are not included in demand totals. However, they are discussed in this report due to their impact on specialty fuel additive use and overall fuel consumption. Total demand is also segmented by application in terms of: gasoline distillate fuel and other applications such as jet fuel and residual fuel oil. Total demand and the application and regional segments are sized at five-year intervals for historical years 2006 and 2011 with a forecast to 2016. Forecasts emanate from the identification and analysis of pertinent statistical relationships and other historical trends/events as well as their expected progression/impact over the forecast period. Five-year compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) are provided to illustrate product trends between reported years and to facilitate comparisons among the various segments. Demand forecasts are the illustration of underlying trends extrapolated to a particular year. To recognize such trends and for the sake of brevity, CAGRs may be expressed as annual growth in the narrative of this report. However, as historical trends may demonstrate, demand in any given year, including a forecast year, may exhibit volatility and depart from the underlying trend.
