One Shorow Too Many?

By Rev. Charles Shorow, Interim Associate Minister
Penny and I received a call from Regional Minister, Tom Jewell, asking us if we would consider moving to Bartlesville, Oklahoma to fill in for Sharon Watkins while they searched for a new minister. That sounded like a great way to retire from First Christian Church in Salem, Oregon after thirty one years. So we came back to where we started, in Oklahoma. Then after two more transitional ministries in Woodward and Oklahoma City we decided we would retire again and come to Edmond where we would be close to our son, daughterin-law and three grandsons. I think I have discovered what I do best; nothing. That is why I was surprised when I met with Don DeSpain and Craig Adkins and they asked if I would consider joining the staff here at First Christian Church Edmond while they searched for a new Associate Minister. I wondered if they had considered that two Shorows on one staff would be one Shorow too many. They said they had considered that but this would be for a short time and I would be a support person. There are so many things that need to be done that Chris, Jerry, and Mark just wont be able to handle. I agreed to give it a try. So now I have an office in the church and invite you to come and check it out. Or better yet, I could come see you. A long time ago, before your time, a minister used to make house calls (Doctors too) - come right to your door to check on you. If you would like a house call, Penny and I would love to come see you. I realize this is not a call from the Senior Minister, but we know the Senior Minister quite well and could tell you stories that no one else knows. I look forward to meeting all of you! Circle of Compassion, in the name of our church and will help to offset any administrative costs and provide more relief funds to help others in need. We can add to this fund at any time and thus help WOC to do even more work with those suffering from natural disasters. Our timing could not be better. I received an e-mail from Mary Lou Hayden, the treasury assistant for the Christian Church Foundation on Monday, May 21, at 10am, saying that the First Christian Church of Edmond Permanent Fund for Week of Compassion had been established, just hours before the horrible tornado struck Moore. And hours later Week of

Please welcome Chuck and Penny as they become a part of our church family.

This money will go to the Week of Compassion endowment fund, the

Compassion would be responding to the emergency, providing aid and funds for immediate relief in Moore. Your gift was already at work! If you would like to give to help those in need in Moore, please write a check to the church with Week of Compassion Moore written on it, or go to the Week of Compassion website and donate there. Be a Part of The Tech Crew!

Have you ever used PowerPoint before? Would you like to help out in worship once a month? The Tech Crew could use your help! We are looking for several volunteers to do the words on Sundays at the 9 & 11am worship services. The time commitment is two hours on the Sunday that you serve. If we get enough volunteers, you may only have to do it once every six weeks. Existing Tech Crew volunteers will provide you with plenty of training on our very easy-to-use software (displays the lyrics to songs on the screens in the sanctuary). This is a fun way to serve! It is rewarding job that helps each member of the congregation in worship. If interested, please contact Frank Gresh at frank@ frankgresh.com or by phone at (405) 417-1977.
