2013 Fulton County Fair
Fulton County Fair Will Bring Unmatched Entertainment, Events & Fun for All Ages
WAUSEON (Ohio) The 156th Fulton County Fair will open on Friday, August 30. As we come to summers end, the Fair is the event everyone has been waiting for all summer long, and its no surprise. For evidence, look no further than whats slated for the 156th Fulton County Fair, which is expected to attract well over a quarter-million visitors from Friday, August 30, through Thursday, September 5. The 2013 Fulton County Fair will offer up seven days jam-packed with family-friendly, affordable fun and top-notch entertainment, including country music standouts Justin Moore and Randy Houser, and rock legendary group Foreigner, who will share the stage for their opening song with Fulton County high school students. And new to the lineup is a free concert on Thursday evening featuring The Shades of Blue, who are known for their hit single, Oh How Happy. But thats not all that promises to make the 156th edition of the Fair so much fun for kids from 2 to 102. Theres plenty of gear-jamming, gasketbusting, man-versus-machine excitement on the schedule in the form of truck and tractor pulls, a pickup truck pull, and Ohios Greatest, demolition derby. Theres the new 9/11 Memorial at the northend that pays tribute to the victims of 9/11 along with those who serve in the military as well as, agricultural displays and competitions, harness racing, midway rides, and Fair food, a mouthwatering collection of culinary delights that many a Fulton County taste bud longs for the other 51 weeks of the year. Headlining the Fairs Labor Day Country Concert is Justin Moore, a native of Poyen, Arkansas (population of 272) who moved to Nashville at the young age of 18. Within a short time, Moore quickly had 3 hit singles under his buckle including Small Town USA, which talks about his roots and staying true to himself and his home town, Outlaws Like Me, and Til My Last Day. Moore finished up 2012 with both of his albums reaching gold status. Opening for Justin is Randy Houser, a man refreshed. The positive vibes of renewal ripple through Housers newest single Runnin Outta Moonlight, and How Country Feels, his first radio No.1 hit. Many country legends have commented on Housers talent including Vince Gill, who called Houser one of the best in the new crop of country singer-songwriters. Houser has written numerous songs for major singers like Trace Adkins, Justin Moore and Chris Young. Sundays 7:30 p.m. concert is one that 28 Fulton County high school students will remember for a lifetime. Classic rock band Foreigner is hot blooded for music education and has invited local high school students to share the stage for their opening song I Want to Know What Love is. The 28-student choir is comprised of four students from each of the seven Fulton County high schools. For their involvement, Foreigner and the Grammy Foundation will donate $500 to the Fulton County All-County Music Festival which takes place each year. But their support of music education isnt the only chart-topping accolade. Foreigner is celebrating almost 35 years of legendary success with 14 Top 20 hits including worldwide number one hit I Want To Know What Love Is, Urgent, Waiting For A Girl Like You, Hot Blooded, and Juke Box Hero. At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Baby Boomers can twist the night away at the Van-Dells 50s and 60s concert, presented free of charge at the South Stage, courtesy of the Fulton County Fair Board. And to show their appreciation of the great community support, the Fair Board is also hosting another free concert at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday featuring soul group The Shades of Blue who are best known for their hit Oh How Happy. This versatile, high-energy group is known for their musical talent, choreography, and Las Vegas style comedy. On Sunday, September 1, Adams Voice will lead the 10:30 a.m. worship service in the Christian Music tent. All Things New will take the stage at 5:00 p.m. for a free concert sponsored by the Fulton County Christian Music Ministries. All Things New, a four-man group hailing from Florida, has been touring with top-name Christian artists such as the Newsboys and Building 429 and performing songs from their self-titled album including New Man, Keep Me on My Knees, and Lead Me Home. Sunday is also the start of a three-day series of Corn Hole competition with mixed doubles taking place on Monday, and youth giving it a toss on Tuesday, September 3 which is Junior Fair Day. Equine aficionados will enjoy five days of horse events including Jr. Fair and open class judgings; harness racing on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. with pari-mutuel wagering. The Michigan Miniature Horse Pull and Bits & Harness Pony Pull draw in the spectators on Sunday starting at 5:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, September 4 the Draft Horse & Pony takes place, followed later in the evening at 7:00 p.m. by the Lost Nations Rodeo Co. & Extreme Bull Riding Event. From beginning to end, the Fulton County Fair has a slew of gear-jamming, clutch-popping, eardrum-threatening activities for those who prefer their horsepower mechanized, their art roughhewn, and their competitions L-O-U-D. On opening day, Friday, August 30, NTPA-sanctioned tractor and truck pulls roll into the Fulton County Grandstand infield at 6:30 p.m. The next night, Saturday, August 31, competitors in the Pickup Truck Pulls will flex their motorized muscle in the infield beginning at 6:30 p.m. And finally, on Thursday, September 5, Ohios Greatest Demolition Derby will rumble like dirty thunder into the Fairs final hours for clashes at 6:30 p.m., bringing the 156th edition of the Fulton County Fair to a (forgive us!) bang-up conclusion. Saturday through Wednesday afternoon, Fairgoers need to be on their best behavior in order to avoid getting ticketed by Barney Fife (impersonator), the bumbling deputy of Mayberry who will be mingling with the crowd, passing out tickets, and catch fairgoers off guard with his antics. And, back by popular demand, the Fire Fighter Show will be taking place Saturday through Tuesday sharing important fire safety tips and offering youth to be on a fire-fighting team. Throughout Fair Week, hundreds of exhibitors young, old, and everywhere in between will vie for blue ribbons in categories that range from traditional livestock and agricultural displays to photography, needlework, and cake decorating. Midway rides will be up and running, the South Stage and Christian Music Tent will feature free entertainment all week long, people can stroll through the special south-end display featuring the history of transportation and dozens of food vendors will serve up copious amounts of deep-fried veggies, creamy milkshakes, homegrown pork and beef sandwiches, fresh-squeezed lemonade, elephant ears, Belgian waffles, and dozens of other hard-toresist Fair treats. As always, the Fair will offer free admission to special groups of Fairgoers on specified days till 6 p.m.: to veterans and their spouses, on Saturday, August 31; to schoolchildren, on Junior Fair Day, Tuesday, September 3, (along with special ride prices from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.); and to senior citizens ages 65 and up on Wednesday, September 4. Free admission does not include ticketed shows. Gate admission is $5 per person, and parking is free. All children 15 and under who are accompanied by an adult are admitted free. Money-saving season tickets may be purchased for $15 prior to the Fair from 4-H and service clubs, at the Fair office, or at area businesses. Season tickets at the gate are $20.
