Solu Cortef

Solu-cortef is a corticosteroid used to treat adrenocortical insufficiency, inflammation from certain skin conditions, and as an adjunct treatment for ulcerative colitis. It works by decreasing inflammation through suppression of immune cells and reduction of capillary permeability. Solu-cortef comes as an injection, cream, ointment, aerosol, tablets, and suppositories and requires monitoring for side effects like increased blood sugar, weight gain, and weakness. Special precautions are needed in patients with conditions like infections, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, or diabetes.
