GP1.1 These principles of measurement provide a uniform basis for measuring bills of quantities for worksofconstruction.Moredetailedinformationthanisrequiredbythisdocumentmaybegiven todefinetheprecisenatureofworkorthecircumstancesunderwhichitistobecarriedout. GP1.2 Amendmentstotheseprinciplesofmeasurementforuseinaparticularlocalityoradoptedforwork notenvisagedbythisdocumentshallbestated;anappendixisprovidedforsuchamendmentstobe recorded. GP1.3 GP2 GP2.1 Theseprinciplesofmeasurementmaybeappliedequallytothemeasurementofproposedworks andofcompletedworks. BillsofQuantities Theobjectsofbillsofquantitiesare: 1. Toassistintheaccuratepreparationoftenders,byprovidingformeasurementof quantitiesonauniformbasis. 2. Toprovideabasisforthefinancialcontrolofaproject,inaccordancewiththe conditionsofcontract.

GP2.2 Billsofquantitiesshalldescribeandrepresenttheworkstobecarriedout;workwhichcannotbe measured accurately shall be described as approximate or given in the bills of approximate quantities. GP2.3 Conditionsofcontract,drawingsandspecificationsshallbeprovidedwiththebillsofquantities.

GP2.4 The section headings and classifications do not impose restrictions upon the format and presentationofbillsofquantities. GP3 Measurement

GP3.1 Workshallbemeasurednetasfixedinpositionandeachmeasurementshallbetakentothenearest 10millimetres;thisprincipleshallnotapplytodimensionsstatedindescriptions. NotwithstandingclauseGP3.1,eachmeasurementhasbeentakentothenearest10mm(i.e.5mm andoverhasbeenregardedas10mmandlessthan5mmhasbeendisregarded).Thisruledoesnot applytoanydimensionsstatedindescriptions. GP3.2 Unlessotherwisestated,nodeductionshallbemadefromitemsrequiredbyareaforvoidsofless than1.00m2. GP3.3 Minimumdeductionofvoidsshallreferonlytovoidswithintheedgesofmeasuredareas;voids whichareattheedgesofmeasuredareasshallalwaysbededucted,irrespectiveofsize. GP3.4 Theseprinciplesofmeasurementmaybeusedwithotherunitsofmeasurementbuttheparticular amendmentsshallbestated. NotwithstandingclauseGP3.4: a) Theunits of measurementbylength,byareaandbyvolumeare linear metre, squaremetre,cubicmetre,respectively.Quantitieshavebeenbilledtothenearestwholeunit. Fractionsoftheunitlessthanhalfhavebeendisregardedandallotherfractionshavebeen regardedasawholeunit.

b) Theunitofbillingbyweightisthekilogramme.Quantitieshavebeenbilledtothe nearestwholeunit.Fractionsofaunitlessthanhalfhavebeendisregardedandallother fractionshavebeenregardedawholeunit. c) Where the application of the above principles would cause entire items to be eliminated,suchitemshavebeenenumeratedstatingthesizeorweightasappropriate. d) Theuseofthetermsprovisionalsumsandprimecostsumshavebeenmadein conformity with the following definitions unless otherwise provided in the contract documents. (i) Thetermprovisionalsumshallmeanasumprovidedforwork orcostswhichcannotbeentirelyforeseen,definedordetailedatthetimethetender documentsareissued. (ii) Thetermprimecostsumshallmeanasumprovidedforwork or services to be executed by a nominated subcontractor, a government or a statutory authority or for materials or goods to be obtained from a nominated supplier.Suchsumsshallbeunderstoodtobeexclusiveofanyprofitorattendance required by the main contractor and provision has been made for the addition thereof,whereapplicable. GP3.5 Notwithstandingtheseprinciplesofmeasurement,aseparateminorbuildingorstructuremaybe enumerated. GP4 Itemstobefullyinclusive

GP4.1 Unless otherwise stated, all items shall be fully inclusive of all that is necessary to fulfill the liabilitiesandobligationsarisingoutofthecontractandshallinclude: 1. GP5.1 Items which are required to be enumerated, or for which an item is required, shall be fully described. GP5.2 Itemswhicharetobemeasuredbylength,ordepthshallstatethecrosssectionalsizeandshape, girthorrangesofgirthsorsuchotherinformationasmaybeappropriate;foritemsofpipeworkit shallbestatedwhetherthediameterisinternalorexternal. GP5.3 Itemswhicharetobemeasuredbyareashallstatethethicknessorsuchotherinformationasmay beappropriate. GP5.4 Itemswhicharetobemeasuredbyweightshallstatethematerialthicknessandunitweightif appropriate(forexample,ductwork). GP7.1 Unlessotherwiserequiredbytheconditionsofcontract,goods,materialsorserviceswhich are requiredtobeprovidedbyamerchantortradesmannominatedbytheemployershallbegivenasa sum;suchsumshallbeexclusiveofcontractor'sprofitandineachcaseanitemshallbegivenforthe additionofprofit. Earthwork support shall be included in the rates for Excavations, which will include for the provision of temporary supports including all necessary shoring and planking and strutting to uphold the vertical faces of excavation, including any additional excavation, backfilling and/or disposal;
