(For the Under Graduate (UG) Programmes) 1. Eligibility (i) a. For Admission: A pass in the Higher Secondary (+2) Examination (Academic Stream) conducted by the H.P Board o Schoo! Education or an examination accepted as e"ui#a!ent thereto by the #arious bodies o the H.P. $ni#ersity Pro#ided that the candidates %ho ha#e passed the "ua!i ying examination %ith arts & humanities stream sha!! be gi#en pre erence in admission to B.A. programme. Pro#ided that the candidates %ho ha#e passed the "ua!i ying examination %ith science stream sha!! be gi#en pre erence in admission to B.Sc. & B.'.A programme. Pro#ided that the candidates %ho ha#e passed the "ua!i ying examination %ith commerce stream sha!! be gi#en pre erence in admission to B.'om. & B.B.A programme. (ii) +ore +ourses: /n each sub)ect being taught in the co!!eges a i!iated to the HP$ there %i!! be identi ied by the concerned $+ Boards o Study (BoS) and ,acu!ty some courses %hich %i!! be re"uired to be passed by a!! students ma)oring in the concerned sub)ect. 0hese are ca!!ed core courses. 'ore courses can be o t%o *inds @ (1) 'ard +ore +ourses1 %hich ha#e to be done %ithout exception. 0here %i!! be no choice a#ai!ab!e. (2) )oft +ore +ourses1 in %hich some degree o choice is a#ai!ab!e in the sense that he & she has to se!ect a certain number o courses out o the gi#en number (!arger than the re"uired) o courses. 0he student %i!! ha#e to choose a certain number o core courses out o the tota! a#ai!ab!e. /n each sub)ect there %i!! be a minimum o ourteen (19) core courses (hard and & or so t). Each core course %i!! be o our credit hours. 0hus- a student ma)oring in the concerned sub)ect %i!! accumu!ate 19 C 9 E :D credit hours by passing core courses. A student %i!! be re"uired to pass in a minimum o 19 core courses in the sub)ect o his & her ma)or to "ua!i y or a $+ degree in a sub)ect ((a)or).

Ho%e#er- a student may ta*e more e!ecti#e courses or the purpose o GEmphasis. or G3oub!e (a)or.. E!ecti#e courses are to be rom a student.s ma)or & minor sub)ect(s) as detai!ed abo#e in the sub)ect combinations a!!o%ed. /n each sub)ect being taught in the co!!eges a i!iated to the HP$ there %i!! be identi ied by the concerned $+ BoS and ,acu!ty some #ariab!e number o courses as e!ecti#e courses. Ho%e#er- courses (%hether core or e!ecti#e) o the sub)ects other than a student.s ma)or %i!! be considered e!ecti#e or a particu!ar student.s $+ programme. Each $+ student %i!! ha#e to pass at !east 12 to 1B e!ecti#e courses rom his & her minor (a!!ied) sub)ects being taught in the co!!ege. Pro#ided that each student %i!! ha#e to ta*e a minimum o : e!ecti#e courses in either o his & her minor sub)ects. Each e!ecti#e course %i!! be 9 credit hours. 0hus- a student %i!! be ab!e to accumu!ate at !east 12 C 9 E 92 credits by passing e!ecti#e courses. /eneral $nterest and 'obby (/$ 4 ') +ourses : /n each co!!ege there can be o ered some genera! interest (+/) and & or hobby (H) courses cutting across sub)ects. 0he co!!ege administration %i!! decide on the basis o its materia! and human resources as to %hat such courses can be o ered. Some such courses (%ith 1 to B credit hours each) can be as under: @ @ @ @ @ +enera! Bet%een 1 and B such courses can be ta*en by a $+ student o#er the period o the programme. 0hus- bet%een 1 and 8 credits can be cumu!ated by a $+ student by passing +/ = H courses. A student accumu!ating !ess than the re"uired number o credits (i.e. !ess than 122

credits) or the a%ard o a $+ degree %i!! ha#e to ma*e up or the discrepancy by ta*ing more compu!sory courses (i he & she has not a!ready ta*en the maximum permitted compu!sory courses) or e!ecti#e courses or +/ = H courses as the case may be. Each course is designed #arious!y under instructions gi#en as >ectures- 0utoria!s- and Practica!s (!aboratory and ie!d exercises). $sua!!y these components are re erred to as >- 0and P components. 18. +ourse Evaluation (Evaluation of the )tudents) A!! courses ('ompu!sory- 'ore- E!ecti#e- and +/ = H courses) in#o!#e an e#a!uation system o students that has the o!!o%ing t%o components:@ (i) (ii) (i) +ontinuous +om0rehensive Evaluation (++E) accounting or :2K o the ina! grade that a student gets in a courseL and End*)emester E<amination (E)E) accounting or the remaining :2K o the ina! grade that the student gets in a course. +ontinuous +om0rehensive Evaluation (++E) : 0his %ou!d ha#e the o!!o%ing components: (a) +lassroom Attendance = Each student %i!! ha#e to attend a minimum o J:K >ectures & 0utoria!s & Practica!s. A student ha#ing !ess than J:K attendance %i!! not be a!!o%ed to appear in the End@Semester Examination (ESE). Pro#ided that those ha#ing bet%een J9K and D:K attendance %i!! app!y or exemption in a prescribed orm accompanied by c!ear reason(s) or absence to the authori4ed unctionaries. Pro#ided that those ha#ing bet%een D9K and :2K attendance %i!! app!y or exemption in a prescribed orm accompanied by a (edica! 'erti icate rom a +o#ernment Hospita!. Pro#ided that exemption rom J:K attendance %i!! be gi#en to those participating in prescribed co@curricu!ar acti#ities (e.g. 7''- 7SS- Mouth ,esti#a!s- Sports etc.) to the extent o 2:K (ma*ing the necessary attendance as :2K in these cases). Ho%e#er- the c!aim or this exemption shou!d be supported by authenticated certi icate rom the concerned co!!ege authorities. 0he stationary or the mid@term tests- e.g. the 22@page test boo*!et- %i!! be pro#ided by the co!!ege. Ouestion paper or the mid@term tests %i!! be made by the teacher o the course and %i!! be e#a!uated by him & her. E#a!uated test boo*!ets %i!! be pro#ided to the students (sho%n in the c!ass) and they can be gi#en photocopies o the same or the cost o photocopying. ,or the 'orrespondence 'ourses and 3istance Education 'ourses (through the /'3E5> o the HP$) the same can be done in an on@!ine mode through e@mai! or other e!ectronic mediums. (c) )eminar & Assignment & !erm #a0er = 0he remaining 1: mar*s o the ''E %i!! be a%arded on the basis o seminar & assignment & term paper etc. that the course teacher might gi#e to the students. ,or the 'orrespondence 'ourses and 3istance Education 'ourses (through the /'3E5> o the HP$) the same can be done in an on@!ine mode through e@mai! or other e!ectronic mediums. (ii) End*)emester E<amination (E)E): 0he remaining :2K o the ina! grade o the student in a course %i!! be on the basis o an end@semester examination (ESE) that %i!! be or three hours duration and %i!! be co#ering the %ho!e sy!!abus o the course. ,or the 5dd Semesters the ESE %i!! be in the month o 5ctober & 7o#ember and or E#en Semesters it %i!! be in the month o Apri! & (ay. A candidate %ho does not pass the examination (ESE) in any course(s) (or due to some reason is not ab!e to appear in the ESE- other conditions being u! i!!edand so is considered as G,ai!.)- sha!! be permitted to appear in such ai!ed course(s). ESE in the subse"uent ESE to be he!d in the o!!o%ing 5ctober & 7o#ember or Apri! & (ay as the case may be. 0he registration or the ESE %i!! be done at the time o the enro!!ment or the course at the beginning o the semester. 0he ee or the ESE %i!! a!so be co!!ected at that time. / a student is not permitted to appear in the ESE due to shortage o attendance beyond the exemption !imit ( :2K attendance)- the candidate %i!! be permitted to mo#e to the next semester.
