Rehabilitation(AIIPMR),Mumbai, INDIA, (WHO and MCI Recognized). All India Institute
of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AIIPMR), is a premium Rehabilitation Institute
under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It was
established in 1955 as a pilot project with technical and manpower support from The
United Nations Organization. It has a state of art Modular operation theatre, in patient
specialized Rehabilitation unit, Physiotherapy Department, Occupational therapy
Department, Speech therapy Department and Department of Prosthetic and Orthotics all
under one roof.
The unique feature of this apex institute is that all disciplines of Rehabilitation have
existed right from the inception of the institute thus rendering holistic care to the patient.
Routine cases taken up in AIIPMR for Neurological and Orthopedic Rehabilitation.
Diplomate of National Board in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is a three year
degree course which is an equivalent degree to M.D. in Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation. It is conducted by The National Board of Examinations, New Delhi and
falls under Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Completed M.B.B.S from ACPM Medical College, Dhule, (MCI Recognized), under
Maharashtra University of Health Science .

TEACHING EXPERIENCE:

Registrar in Department of Rehabilitation at All India Institute of Physical Medicine and


Rehabilitation, Mumbai, India from March 2011 to august 2012 for period of 1 years 5
month).

CURRENT APPOINMENT:
Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at SMIMER
Medical College and Hospital Surat Gujarat India, since September 2012 till date
(Over 14 months).
PMR department in SMIMER started from august 2011 under upgradation of physical
medicine and rehabilitation in medical college a central government scheme. Since
joining we developed department by increasing OPD cases by 300% (average 1100/
month), started medical, surgical and other rehabilitation procedure in cases with
cerebral palsy, intervention for musculoskeletal pain management, post arthroscopy &
arthroplasty rehabilitation, sub acute rehabilitation in critical care unit, cerebral palsy
clinic. Future plan for this year to start various clinics like cardiac rehabilitation, geriatric
rehabilitation, neuro rehabilitation, to upgrade cerebral palsy clinic and to increase the
number of operative and non operative intervention.
PREVIOUS APPOINMENTS:
Jr. Resident and Registrar in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at
All India Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AIIPMR) Haji Ali Mumbai India
for period of 4 year and 5 month .
I was working in the above capacity in this modern 60 bedded (exclusively for PMR),
University teaching hospitals which is recognized by Medical Council of India and WHO.
As a Resident and Registrar I was deeply involved in the management of all types of
pediatric orthopedic patients primarily congenital anomalies, cerebral palsy and post
polio residual paralysis, stroke rehabilitation, spinal cord injury rehabilitation,
neuromyopathy rehabilitation, and amputation management.

CLINICAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
1. NEUROLOGICAL REHABILITATION:
I am a part of the Rehabilitation team at All India Institute of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation, Mumbai where we manage the following condition:
A) Rehabilitation of paraplegia: To provide total care including ADL and
Ambulation training to Spinal Cord Injury patients caused by Trauma, Transverse
myelitis, Gullian barre syndrome, Tuberculosis, etc.

B) Cerebral Palsy, Stroke, Traumatic brain injury,


Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Muscular Dystrophy with bladder management as
and when required and Post Polio Residual Paralysis
C) Pediatric Rehabilitation: We cater to the needs of children with disability due
to spinal dysraphism, congenital anomalies and osteogenesis imperfecta ,etc and
routinely conduct pediatric rehabilitation clinics for the same.
2. CARDIAC REHABILITATION :
Actively involved in cardiac rehabilitation programmes. Particularly patients in phase - 3
& in the mild to moderate risk stratified categories.
3. AMPUTEE REHABILITATION:
Rehabilitation of Patients with single or multiple limb deficiency of the upper and lower
limbs including pre-prosthetic training , Prosthetic prescription , Trial , check out & fitment
of prosthesis and Gait training with prosthesis. Experience with the CAD-CAM Machine
for superior socket design.
4. DIABETIC FOOT CARE:
We focus on problems to diabetes. We perform foot pressure assessments and
prescribe appropriate orthosis for the same and aim at prevention of disability.
5. ARTHROPLASTY REHABILITATION:
We routinely take up cases of post total hip and knee replacement arthoplasties in our
specialized in-patient rehabilitation units. These are usually cases which are complicated
due to other concomitant major systemic illnesses, bi lateral arthoplastys and
amputations.
6. SPORTS REHABILITATION:
Rehabilitation of various sports related injuries and experience of working as a sports
physician.
7. PAEDIATRIC ORTHOPAEDIC REHABILITATION:
I routinely perform the following surgeries as part of our rehabilitation programmes.
A) For Cerebral PalsyGuarded Tendoachilis Lengthening (Vulpius and Modified Bakers procedure),
Fractional hamstring lengthening,
Ilio-psoas and Rectus femoris lengthening for hip flexion deformities,
Adductor tenotomy with Anterior obturator neurectomy,
Split transfer of tibialis anterior muscle and
Rectus femoris to sartorius transfer.
B) For Post Polio Residual paralysisSoft tissue release for hip, knee, ankle and foot deformities,
Supra-condylar osteotomy,
Triple arthrodesis,

Ankle and Subtalar arthrodesis,


Tendon Transfers(Peroneous Longus to Mid-foot, Modified Jones, Tibialis
Posterior to dorsum of foot) and Peabody transfer for calcaneus deformity.
C) Posterior-medial release and Application of Joshis External Stabilizing System
(JESS) fixator for Congenital Talipus Equino Varus.
D) Syndactly release and digital lengthening as a part of our hand rehabilitation Project
E) Quadriceplasty for AGMC and congenital quadriceps contracture
F) Open reduction and Varus Derotation osteotomy for Developmental Dysplasia Hip.
G) Unipolar and Bipolar release of Sternomastoid in cases of Congenital Muscular
Torticollis.
8. PAIN MANAGEMENT
We offer a holistic approach to chronic pain, In the form of detailed evaluation
,medications , physical agent modalities, physiotherapy, occupational therapy ,
psychological counseling , local injection techniques , nerve blocks (with the help of
anesthetists), minor and major orthopedic procedures.
9. WORK SIMULATION AND WORK HARDENING:
For work related dysfunction, management and preventive strategies.

I am deeply interested in community service, since my school days I have been regular at
blood donation camps. Even today I donate blood at various charitable camps. I attend
yearly camps on Polio Corrective Surgery around various parts of India arranged and
sponsored by Impact India.
COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SKILLS:
I possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal. I am fluent in English,
Hindi, and Marathi and learning Gujarati.
OTHER INTERESTS:
I am highly interested in sports such as lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, martial art and have
been indulging in the same since my school days.

I am well versed with computers and with using Microsoft word and Power Point. I am
proficient in the use of the internet and other search engines.
