Team Work,
Team members:
After reading the article Mexico’s Position as a world class trader answer the
following ideas:
Mexico has made a dramatic transition from a relatively closed economy, to one of the most
open economies in the world, by doing free trade agreements and globalizing.
Mexico initiated its integration to the world economy first by unilaterally liberalizing its
economy in the early 80’s and then by joining GATT in 1986. Since the nineties, we have
undertaken a very ambitious agenda of international trade negotiations to open markets
guided by the principles of balance and reciprocity.
3. Explain what the GATT is, when and why Mexico has joined it.
Mexico joined the GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade) in 1986, because of the
weakening of its foreign economic relations and a trade deficit that has contributed to it’s
indebtedness

8. Find and comment about the latest news (Tuesday, august 18th 2009) about
conversations between Mexican President Calderón Hinojosa and Brazilian
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva about FTA (TLC Brasil-México)
crisis internacional económica, impactan a nuestros pueblos", señaló.
Our Comment:
We think that it is a very wise decition for both Presidents to unite forces, being that
both Mexico and Brazil are countries in constant growth and that Could benefit a lot
from a free trade agreement.
In the article both of the Presidents say that they have the best disposition for making
this happen and that they think it is vital for their economies and policies to unite.
If they continue through with this, we believe they will have great results. Me believe
that Mexico needs to unite more with the countries in the south and that together they
can accomplish great things.
