BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY DIVISION
Center for Entrepreneurship:
o IL DCEO Grant for Disaster Assistance and Preparedness

CONTINUING EDUCATION DIVISION

ABE/ESL/GED: ICCB Adult Basic Education/General Educational Development/English as a Second
Language (ABE/GED/ESL) Department; have received $1,366,549 for Adult ESL, ESL Family Literacy,
ABE (Reading, English and Math), GED Preparation in English and Spanish, Citizenship, and ESL for
Citizenship; expect to serve 7,350 students this FY.

ILLINOIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD (ICCB)
Perkins Postsecondary Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program. Provide opportunities for
high school and college students to build academic, career and technical skills, with partnerships
among secondary education, postsecondary education, and industry to promote student success.
Project Director: Glenda Gallisath ($612,296)

FY10 GRANTS SUBMITTED: PENDING FUNDING DECISIONS

ILLINOIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD (ICCB)
Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program Improvement Grant. Enhance instruction and
academic support activities to strengthen and improve CTE programs and services. Project Director:
Glenda Gallisath (Expected: $77,093)
Partnership for College & Career Success (formerly Tech Prep). Lead is DuPage Area Occupational
System (DAOES). Career Pathways Advisory Board will create pathway sequences from high school
to college in designated Career and Technical Education program areas. Project Director: Ann Marie
Rosen (Expected COD Portion: $30,000)
Workforce Development Grant (Business and Industry Grant). Implement contract and customized
job training; entrepreneurship seminars and workshops; business counseling and management
assistance; and contract procurement assistance and employment/training for unemployed or
underemployed participants. Project Director: David Gay (Expected: $166,029)

FY10 GRANTS IN DEVELOPMENT AS OF SEPTEMBER 2009

ILLINOIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE BOARD (ICCB)
Career and Technical Innovation Grant: College of DuPage will work in collaboration with local
high schools and the DuPage Area Occupational Education System to align curricula; develop
programs of study and models of integrated curriculum; and improve the preparation of students for
college and careers. Project Director: Ann Marie Rosen ($64,015 pending)

BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY DIVISION
The Electronics Technology program recently received approval from the College Curriculum
Committee to offer a new certificate in Renewable Energy in response to Workforce Board’s request
to offer programs aligned with new federal stimulus money allocated for training vouchers.
The following short-term certificate programs are under development to help retrain the area
workforce:
o HVAC: Energy Audit
o Interior Design Sustainable Interiors
o Horticulture: Sustainable Gardens
o Electronics Technology: Electrician Preparation
o Manufacturing: MSSC
Real Estate program recently received approval from the College Curriculum Committee to offer a
new certificate in Property Management

HEALTH & SCIENCES DIVISION

New Homeland Security Certificate program.
AAT Degree in Early Childhood Education and Care - pending BoT and ICCB approval.
New Early Childhood Education Assistant Teacher Certificate - pending ICCB approval.
Course revisions made on three ECEC Administration courses to remove the lab hours which were a
barrier for the directors taking the courses.
Course revisions made on five ECEC electives to remove the lab hours so the courses are more
marketable to the ECEC workforce for continuing education credit.

LIBERAL ARTS DIVISION

Graphic Arts Technology curriculum revised for Fall 2009 is implemented to meet industry standards.
Curriculum has been revised for Fall 2009; program name change to Graphic Design for curriculum
compatibility with market need
Curriculum revised for Fall ’10; updated the Television degree and Motion Picture Television
certificate; will be offering a new degree - Digital Broadcast Journalism.

STUDENT SERVICES DIVISION.

Counseling faculty have worked with CTE faculty to assist in the redesign of COD programs for the
national and state mandated "16" clusters. (http://www.careerclusters.org/) Major goal for spring ’10
is to develop and hold a Career/Major Fair utilizing these clusters.

CONTINUING EDUCATION DIVISION

ABE/GED/ESL Department. Inclusion of American College Test (ACT) WorkTrain curriculum into
existing ABE and GED instruction to prepare students to take and pass the ACT WorkTrain tests to
obtain national certification as “workforce ready”. Expanding scope and marketing of the program
immediately to include referrals from WorkNet DuPage and the DuPage Workforce Board.

STUDENT SERVICES DIVISION
A shortened version of the Career Exploration Workshops, conducted for recently unemployed adults,
are offered at least twice per semester/term free of charge. This is a collaborative effort between
Counseling, Career Services, and the Library.

KEY CLIENTS AND PROJECTS THROUGH BPI (NOW COD BUSINESS

SOLUTIONS) AND THE CENTER FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Center for Entrepreneurship
Conducting entrepreneurship training at IL Development Council – a basic economic development
course.

COD Business Solutions

Acquisition and implementation of Advanced Client Tracking software to assist department personnel
in the tracking of client data, client activity, sales activity and revenue.
After six weeks with the new staff, the client base consists of 34 businesses; estimated net revenue of
$18,361.

HIGH SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS AND WORKPLACE READINESS

INITIATIVES
HEALTH & SCIENCES DIVISION
Criminal Justice - assisted Technology Center of Du Page (TCD) in the development of their criminal
justice curriculum; now serving on their advisory board.
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) - PLTW is a national program that supports Engineering courses at the
high school level and provides schools with curriculum material; exploring ways to launch PLTW in
the local area.
New Dual Credit contract at the Technology Center of Du Page (TCD) and Fenton High School.

HIGH SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS OFFICE

Hosting at least 17 events in FY ’10 for area high school students and educators.

Dual Credit Course Offerings

Dual Credit provides high school students with the opportunity to enroll in selected courses for which they
will receive both college and high school credits. So far, new Dual Credit schools for FY ’10 are:
Fenton High School
Montini High School

PARTNERSHIPS AND OUTREACH INITIATIVES RELATED TO

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY DIVISION
The division offers these program and courses in new state-of-the-art TEC building: Architecture
Technology, Construction Management, Interior Design, Horticulture, Heating and Air Conditioning
Technology, Automotive Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Electronics Technology, Electro-
Mechanical Technology, and Welding.

HEALTH & SCIENCES DIVISION
Numerous tours of the ECEC program and the new Health & Sciences building for community
programs including 204 members of the National Association for the Education of Young Children,
Naperville School District, and Argonne National Lab Child Development Center.

LEARNING RESOURCES DIVISION

Library faculty partner with Counseling and Career Services to hold workshops for unemployed
members of the community. The librarian teaches participants how to find job information and
information on how to prepare for specific jobs and careers. The first of these Career Education
Workshops is September 25, 2009.

STUDENT SERVICES DIVISION

Career Services will partner with Special Student Services this spring to offer two workshops on
workforce readiness for graduating COD students with disabilities.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT EVENTS

BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY DIVISION
National Coalition of Technical Centers on October 2, 2009 in the new TEC building at the Glen Ellyn
Campus; this event will be attended by over 100 educators and manufacturers.
Hospital Engineers Society of Northern Illinois for a tour and lecture in the TEC and HSC buildings on
October 21, 2009. This group of facility management professionals will tour the new buildings and
hear a lecture on LEED levels in both buildings.

Service to Success Veterans Conference at Harper College; November 2009.
Kankakee Community College Purchasing Vendor Fair, October 2009

HEALTH & SCIENCES DIVISION

Explore Engineering Night – Approximately 200 high school students will attend this event to learn
about engineering career options, October 2009.
Health Science Center Open House on October 20, 2009 for high school students to view the Dental
Hygiene and Nursing programs.
October 20, 2009 Healthcare Exploration Day – 250 high school students tour and experience hands-
on classroom areas of Health & Sciences.

 SERVICES TO THE PUBLIC AND SPECIAL POPULATIONS SUCH AS
THE UNEMPLOYED
ADMISSIONS OFFICE
The Admissions office will waive the application fee for unemployed persons with proper
documentation.

CONTINUING EDUCATION DIVISION

Suburban Law Enforcement Academy (SLEA) – will implement newly approved Management and
Leadership Development Program (200 hour curriculum) in January 2010.

STUDENT SERVICES DIVISION

Career Services currently hosts four free workshops a month on campus for those students and
community members seeking assistance with their professional development materials.

OTHER
LIBERAL ARTS DIVISION
Graphic Arts Technology
In Spring 2010 Graphic Arts Technology will work closely with the College and community to help
produce printing materials in the new Output Center in the former Dental Hygiene space in the Arts
Center. This new facet of GAT will provide students with the opportunity to work in a production
environment. New equipment and procedures will help pave the path for new external and internal
partnerships and revised curriculum.

STUDENT SERVICES DIVISION

An increased number of Career Development courses (Education 1105) have been offered for
students who are undecided about their major and/or adults who are in transition. Specific evening
hours have been designated for the sole purpose of career counseling. The intent is to work with our
adult population contemplating career change due to job loss.
