Take Five is a jazz song made popular by the Dave Brubeck Quartet on their 1959 album Time Out Written by Paul Desmond, the quartets saxophonist

Unusual and catchy 5/4 time signature Has been covered by many different artists in various styles and genres

Pianist and leader of the Dave Brubeck Quartet Experimented with odd time signatures Frontrunner of West Coast Cool Jazz Composer of classical and contemporary music as well as jazz

Not interested in music at young age Graduated from the College of the Pacific in 1942 Drafted into WWII, played in band Studied at Mills College under GI Bill Began playing with Paul Desmond Trio Dave Brubeck Trio

Formed in 1951 with Brubeck (piano), Desmond (saxophone), Joe Dodge (drums), and Bob Bates (double bass) replaced Dodge with Joe Morello and Bates with Eugene Wright to form Classic Quartet

1959 hit album featuring Take Five first jazz album to sell 1,000,000 records
