Micom P441, P442 and P444 Distance Protection Relays: Expanding The Micom Experience
The MiCOM P441, P442, and P444 are distance protection relays that have been expanded to offer more solutions. The relays provide fast, secure clearing of faults with distance and directionalizing protection. They offer benefits like standardized selection, simplified spares holding, integrated communication protocols, and maximized availability. The relays include distance protection, overcurrent protection, voltage/current monitoring, event recording, and switchgear supervision. Optional inputs include fiber optic or IRIG-B, and outputs vary by model from 6 to 24 outputs.

Expanding the MiCOM experience The MiCOM P440 range of relays has been expanded to offer even more solutions. In addition to the P441 and P442, the P444 provides even more digital inputs and more relay outputs. All P440 relays now provide optional DNP3 communication protocol as well as optional IEC60044-8 fibre optic interface for non-conventional instrument transformer systems. The MiCOM relays offers fast, secure clearing for any type of fault. The unique distance and directionalising implementations provide an optimum mix of speed, selectivity and security for difficult fault types and application situations. In addition, the relays offer the following benefits: Standardised relay selection for all applications Simplified spares holding with dual rated CT inputs No need for additional equipment Simple system integration through a choice of communication protocols, including Courier, Modbus, IEC 60870-5-103 and DNP3 Synchronisation of all protection devices Fast fault diagnosis with integral fault information, disturbance and event records Maximise protection availability through extensive self-monitoring and system supervision (CT, VT, trip circuit) Enhanced reliability for all faults through two different measurement techniques The software tools (MiCOM S1) allow intuitive interface to the relay and greatly lessen training and documentation requirements for the user. Powerful and easily implemented scheme logic with a large choice of gates and timers makes the relay completely customisable with an apropriated certification, to meet the needs of a wide range of power system requirements and user preferences. Distance Protection One and/or three phase tripping logic with four shot, one and/or three-pole autorecloser and optional check synchronising Dual distance protection algorithms Five independent zones of protection Zone 1 extension scheme Independent quadrilateral characteristics for phase-to-phase and phase-to-earth faults Range of pre-programmed channel- aided schemes and user-definable channel-aided scheme logic Weak-infeed and echo mode Loss of load protection Current reversal guard protection Parallel line compensation Power swing blocking Settable Switch-on-to-fault and Trip-on- reclose protection Other Protection Functions Directional/non-directional phase overcurrent Stub bus protection Emergency overcurrent on VT failure Directional/non-directional earth fault Channel-aided directional earth fault Directional/non-directional negative sequence overcurrent Under/overvoltage Broken conductor Circuit breaker failure Voltage transformer supervision Current transformer supervision IEC 60044-8 NCIT optical fibre option T&D Protection & Control Measurement and Recording Facilities All records are time tagged to a resolution of 1ms.
