Background
Nestle S.A is the worlds biggest food and beverage company. Nestle was established in 1867 in
Vesey, Switzerland. It has around 250,000 people including factories and operations in almost
every country in the world. Nestle launched its first operation at Singapore in 1912 and since then,
continuously maintained their successes. Some of its mostly famous products, which are familiar
to the market, are Milo, Nescafe, Maggi, and Nesvita Within more than a hundred years of
presence on the Singapore market, Nestle has built its own reputations by qualifying the standard
level of safety and quality. As an indispensable part of projects, the most up-to-date technology is
approached, and its accumulated base on science expertise in the manufacture of products. Being
voted as the most reliable food company, Nestle has certificated its brand qualities. Besides,
Nestle has concentrated and fulfilled its responsibility as a corporate citizen by participating in
community and social projects that contribute to the development of the country such as Creating
Shared Value.
Main socially responsible Project: Creating Shared Value (CSV)
Created Shared Value project has including three main projects are Nutrition, Water and
Environmental Sustainability, Rural Development etc.Thus, our group decided to refer
about some of this projects.
Nutrition
As the worlds leading Nutrition, Health and Wellness Company, they are aiming to help
people to have a healthier diet, whether people are awareness of vitamins and minerals.
Nutrition is the one of the biggest socially responsible projects of Nestle. They are
developing its strategy and surveys for 140 years since they cognized nutritional awareness
and desire of customers for improved health. Using the science based solutions they aimed to
improve quality of life through food and diet, also including those who is in nutritional needs
and offering products with higher nutritional value in a lower price.
In addition, Nestle invests in continuous development and improvement for its products and

always strengthening their recipe database management for better nutrition synthesis and
analysis. Company is continuing to reduce the salt, sugar, trans fatty acid, saturated fat and
artificial colorings and adding more nutritious ingredients, beneficial micronutrients, providing
appropriate portion guidance, and making nutritious, high-quality food affordable.
Water and environmental sustainability
Nestle, also aiming to produce good quality product, which have the lowest environmental
footprint, so they trying continuously to improve their operational efficiency and environmental
performance. They apply a life cycle approach to assess the impacts of our own operations
and those associated with the wider value chain, thereby contributing to a better future and
Creating Shared Value to both Nestl and society.
Nestle invested over CHF 220 million in an environmental sustainability programs and
initiatives in 2009. Furthermore, they continue to identify and implement the project to reduce
the use of water, non-renewable energy and other natural resources, to reduce the emission of
green gases and also to reduce the waste and improve the environmental performance of our
packaging. Nestle, also work to promote more sustainable practices in our supply chain,
including the promotion of water stewardship.
Rural development
Recent surveys say that three-quarters of the worlds poor people live in rural areas. Nestle
spends over CHF 20.4 billion a year on raw materials and works directly with approximately
540 000 farmers to help them to increase their productivity, protect the environment and climb
out of poverty.
In 2009, Nestle supported 165,553 suppliers through the technical assistance and knowledge
sharing. Today, about half of companys 449 manufacturing plants are in rural areas, so they
actively participate in Multi-stakeholder initiatives to promote best practice.
Impact of a factory belong to rural development project is to bring opportunities and greater
access for employment to Nestl products for local consumers and other indirect economic
benefits in the community.

Recommendation
Creating Shared Value Projects operation has increased its loyalty brand by Successfully
approaching the better safes and qualities on their products of food and diet. Besides that,
responsible produced and Nutrition gained up the levels of consumers health and energy
circulation. In order to ensure a better society, Nestle completed well its part of increasing the
social knowledge of Nutrition, helping people to understand more about minerals and vitamins.
On the other side, boosting investment into synthesis and analysis datas of nutrition is indeed
whether demanding of higher valuable nutrition is increased.
Standing by the top 50 of the worlds most admired companies, Nestle has achieved much
positive point in lower the increases of environment emissions. However, project operations
also creating various kinds of chances to people who are unemployed. So that, on a few
differences point of view, Nestle has guaranteed of its fulfilled responsibility on society. Also, it
is clearly seen that operations including the development of rights protection to both internal
and external cultures where employees deserves their standard conditions of having a
competitive working environment. Most of their social response activities are building schools,
volunteers to assisted older who inability to taking reaction on life casual activities.
Known as of the most successful nutrition company in the world, they constantly pushed their
limit to inventing and satisfied their consumer with better taste and health. In addition,
expanding to rural development also balancing the inversely percentage of supplying and
demanding. In general, on both sides of responding to the social matters, Nestle has
increased their brand values including tangible and intangible benefits significantly.
