Grafgna draws from Old World traditions, while also embodying New World passion, all of which is contained in the vivid avors from the distinct terroir of San Juan. Victor Marcantoni Grafgna Winery Director N R O R O N 2010 APPELLATION San Juan, Argentina VINTAGE CONDITIONS 2010 was a great vintage, ideal for white varietals and red wines with ageing potential. Good weather conditions resulted in healthy development of the grapes and wines of excellent quality. Preceding the 2010 vintage, a mild and prolonged autumn extended the vegetative period until mid June. The winter was mainly cold, adequately fullling the vines needs during the winter interval. Bud break was postponed 7 to 10 days, in comparison to the previous year, as spring that year came delayed. While some areas suffered from spring frosts, owering and fruit set was good in most varieties, especially in the case of Malbec. Summer, in turn, was hot with low rainfall and presence of Zonda wind, promoting healthy development of the vines during vraison and creating a natural hydric stress that resulted in smaller berries with excellent solid-liquid ratio. For low cycle varieties, harvest was postponed for up to 20 days. This was very benecial for red wines, which acquired high polyphenol concentration, with great aromatic and tannic qualities, as well as potential for ageing. This vintage also gave us intense, aromatic white wines with generous fruit avours and varietal character. WINEMAKING This harmonious, fragrant wine is the product of the utmost care due to controlled and exclusive treatment in a smaller vineyard. To ensure optimal quality of this 100% Chardonnay, all the grapes were picked by hand and harvesting was done in the early hours of the morning, when the temperature is cool. The grapes were then carried from the vineyards in small crates where they remained until they reached the press, in order to avoid crushing. After alcoholic fermentation, the Chardonnay grapes continued macerating, obtaining even more aromas and structure. Following malo-lactic fermentation (50 % of the volume), half of the wine was barrel fermented. Three additional months of ageing in the bottle allowed it to achieve its characteristic balance. The result is a fresh, crisp, aromatic and well-balanced wine. TASTING NOTES Color: deep golden yellow, with greenish highlights. Aroma: ripe aromas of white tropical fruits (apricot and pineapple) and hints of toasted vanilla due to its oak ageing. Palate: supple and refreshing, with tropical avors and a toasted and pleasant nish. Suggested food matching: grilled salmon, sea food risotto, soft cows milk. Service temperature: 10-12C (50/53F) ANALYSIS Alcohol: 13.5 % alc/vol Total Acid: 5.18 g/L pH: 3.48 Established in 1870, GRAFFIGNA has the honor of being the oldest winery in San Juan and the second oldest winery in Argentina. The Grafgna Centenario Chardonnay has its origin in Tulum Valley in San Juan located at 2.066 ft above sea level. This remote, unspoiled area is home to a highly unique terroir. San Juan enjoys a dry climate and an average of 310 days of sunshine per year. Runoff streams originating in the Andes Mountains ow through the area, providing ample water for irrigation. These ideal conditions grant the grapes optimal ripeness, with softer tannins and exceptional concentration. Because the Zonda wind that blows through San Juan helps prevent disease and mildew rot, fewer pesticides and chemicals are used, resulting in superior fruit quality. The Grafgna Centenario range conveys the true expression of each variety, with deep aromas, avors and great concentration. The rst to sell branded wine in Argentina, GRAFFIGNA now has a healthy export business to more than 40 countries worldwide.
