The Prague Codex the fifth preserved Mayan manuscript

Bohumil Bohm, Vladimir Bohm

With its character and overall make the Prague Codex ranks to the four Mayan codices
knon under the names the !resden Codex, the Parisian Codex, the Madrid Codex and the
"rolier Codex# $t is deposited in the %aprstek Museum in Prague that is a part of the %ational
Museum of the C&ech 'epu(lic#
The first analysis of this monument as performed (y Cestmir )oukotka in *+,- and
declared it a falsification of the ./0s to the +/0s of the *+th century# 1e thought erroneously
that all lines of hieroglyphs of the Mayan tenty2days cycle ere arranged chaotically only
ithout any system# 1oever, he stated correctly that the sets of some figures in that Codex
could not logically exist at all in the system of Mayan calculations# %umerous illustrations
ere considered (y this author only figments of the falsifier0s imagination that ensued,
o(viously, from the knoledge of some of the original Mayan codices#
The Prague Codex is made of plant fi(ers covered (y hite stucco# $t is 3.45 mm long
and is folded into the form of a folding picture2(ook forming *. pages of the average
dimensions *,, x 3-, mm# The draings are on (oth sides of the (elt, so that the codex is
formed (y 4- pages# The structure and construction of the (earing part of the codex, i#e# the
fi(rous material, surface layer finish, dimensions of the pages and the degree of ear are
practically identical ith the make of the other knon Mayan codices#
We performed a thorough analysis of the data of this codex, including a partial
photographic analysis in the ultraviolet spectrum# The o(tained results confirmed that, in its
essence, it is an original Mayan manuscript hich, at the end of the *+th century, as,
hoever, covered (y draings from the ma6or part and thus damaged considera(ly# 7nly in
positive dark2overexposed snaps of the individual pages recogni&a(le are the original figures
and calendar data in the system of Mayan calculations and traces of original draings# 8n
essential part of this original surface as removed and replaced (y ne coloured illustrations,
completely fa(ricated in some cases, in others ensuing from the motives of the !resden and
Madrid codices# 8lso the columns of the figures accompanying the pictures are completely
chaotic and serve for filling in the vacant areas only#
9ortunately, on some pages the falsifier left the original structures, i#e# columns and lines
of hieroglyphs from the tenty2days cycle that ere not removed and covered (y draings# $f
e mark the individual dran hieroglyphs of the tenty2days cycle (y figures from one to
tenty according to the positions that they are in the tenty2days cycle, then their se:uence,
algorithm and structure are so exceptional in many lines that that part could not have (een
dran (y the creator of the other overpaintings in the form of at random selected sym(ols# 1e
even did not understand the simple procedure of creation of figures ithin the Mayan system
of calculations# 1ere, e ill present only a small section of pages * and 5# ;hon in
(rackets are the Mayan names of the days<
+# =Muluc> *,# =Men>
interval 5 days interval 5 days
*5# =$x> 3/# =8hau>
interval 5 days interval 5 days
*+# =Cauac> interval 5 days ,# =Chicchan>
interval 5 days interval 5 days
5# =?an> l/# =7c>
interval 6 days interval 6 days
*/# =7c> *-# =Ci(>
8mong the individual days there are the folloing differences, namely ,, ,, ,, -, ,, ,, ,, ,,
- days# ;uch a correspondence could not occur, of course, in random draing of sym(ols of
the tenty2days cycle# 1ere, evidently, it is the original recording of the course of tropical
years and, in particular, days to hich some of the nodal points of the year fall that are the
e:uinoxes or solstices# $f e add 4-, days to the Muluc day hich is the ninth day of the
tenty2days cycle and the first day of the left column of the a(ove2mentioned scheme, then
the sum falls on the *5th day hich is the $x day, as marked in the presented specification#
The five2 and six2days intervals may therefore (e replaced ith cycles of 4-, and 4-- days<
+# =Muluc> *,# =Men>
interval 365 days interval 365 days
*5# =$x> 3/# =8hau>
interval 365 days interval 365 days

interval 366 days interval 366 days

The sum of all differences among the individual days of the tenty2days cycle may (e
expressed (y the mathematical e:uation =@ x 4-, days> A =3 x 4-- days> B 43.@ days# This set
includes exactly nine tropical years =4-,#353*++ days> ith the error only A /#*. days# The
accompanying numerical intervals of the values 4-, and 4-- days that are, in fact, included
among the days of the tenty2days cycle (ut, unfortunately, they ere removed as not
interesting and replaced ith naCve illustrations ith seemingly Mayan su(6ects# 8lso in the
calendar data of the !resden Codex there is a lot of data from the tenty2days cycle that, in
parallel ith the thirteen2days cycle, form the sacred 3-/2days cycle# 8lthough (eteen to
days ithin the frameork of the tenty2days cycle there is the interval of several days only,
in fact it has the value of the order of ten, hundred, even thousand days that are marked in that
codex in the form of accompanying numerical lines#
7n page 5 of the Prague Codex, similar as on other conse:uential pages, there is the
configuration of columns of days (y threes that are linked up analogically as on the first page#
The names of days of the tenty2days cycle are, for clearness sake, replaced again (y figures
in the se:uence in hich they are located in that Mayan cycle# The intervals (eteen the
individual days in vertical columns are again formed (y , or - days<
*.# *4# +# ,# *# *-# *3#
5 days 6 days 5 days 5 days 5 days 6 days 5 days
4# 5 days *+# 5 days *5# 5 days */# 6 days -. 5 days 3# 5 days *@#
5 days 5 days 6 days 5 days 5 days 5 days 6 days
.# 5# 3/# *,# **# @# 4#
When using the same algorithm that e sa on the fist page of the codex already, e get
five identical groups ith regularly repeated time intervals among the days of the tenty2days
cycle, namely, , days, , days, , days, - days# The intervals of five and six days may (e
replaced again ith cycles of 4-, and 4-- days# We create the se:uence , x =4 x 4-, days A *
x 4-- days> hich represents @4/, days, i#e# 3/ tropical years ith the error of /#*- day# $n
this case it is the calculation of the exact length of the tropical year as it is used also at
present# 8fter three years of 4-, days each one leap year of 4-- days is inserted#
The significance of arranging the sym(ols of the days of the tenty2days cycle on the
pages of the Prague Codex does not apply only to the o(servance of the course of the tropical
year# The algorithm of the sym(ols is so ell2considered that, on several pages in hori&ontal
lines of seven sym(ols of days on each (eteen each neigh(ouring to days the length is
included of four synodic periods of the planet Venus rounds# !uring check modelling of
random numerical structures of identical configurations as those on the pages of the Prague
codex and finding out hat the pro(a(ility is of a random occurrence of the a(ove2mentioned
phenomena such a small pro(a(ility ensues that it practically cannot (e even defined less
than */

# $nteresting synchronous lines of the days of the tenty2days Mayan cycle are also
on other pages of that Codex and it is evident that they also have their realistic (asis# They are
.# 5# 3/# *,# **# @# 4#
the su(6ect of further intense studies of ours and their analysis ould far exceed the extent of
this (asic information# 8t the stage of preparations is the photographic scanning of the Codex
in different spectra of invisi(le radiation, using the latest displaying techni:ue that could
shield the later overpaints and reveal further original calendar recordings and the content of
the pages that are not o(vious at first sight# This method as used very successfully in the
past already to reveal falsifications of some of the C&ech manuscripts that fell, ith their
content, to the *3th and *4th centuries#
8fter processing all preserved original Mayan data and making the content of the original
pages visi(le ithin the frameork of the possi(ilities of the present2day technical e:uipment,
the Prague Codex ill (e pu(lished completely and made accessi(le for the idest pu(lic#
