Purpose of Document Canopy Network Updater Tool (CNUT) is a free tool supplied to Canopy customers to aid in the upgrading of Canopy equipment on their network. CNUT is supported on Windows 2003 and XP platforms as well as on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system. This document communicates the customer-facing changes to CNUT that are included in this release.
Users may upgrade either from any previous release.
CNUT 3.1 or later is a mandatory upgrade required by all Canopy operators who wish to upgrade Canopy elements to Canopy System Release 8.4 or later.
CNUT 3.1 or later is required for customers who are adding any of the following element types to their networks: Motorola PMP 500 modules (the 3.5-GHz OFDM products previously known as MOTOwi4 ULAP and Ultra Light OSU) Motorola PTP 500 modules (high-speed OFDM backhauls) CMM4 Powerline LV MDU Gateway Powerline LV Repeater products. elements that run Canopy System Release 9.0
CNUT 3.1 or later is not required for other Canopy network operators who have already upgraded to CNUT 2.0 and are not using these new products. However, they may wish to upgrade to CNUT 3.11 to reduce downtime in upgrading the system release on PTP 400, 500, or 600 Series Bridges.

In support of these new device types, the device icons in CNUT have been updated. These changes include a cleaner version of the PLV modem and PLV bridge icons as well as a new icon for CMM micros and new icons for each of the new devices supported. The following table shows the icons supported by CNUT 3.11:
Icon Device Type
Canopy PMP 100 or 200 Series Subscriber Module (SM)
Canopy PMP 100 or 200 Series Access Point (AP)
10-Mbps Backhaul (BH) or PTP 100 Series Bridge
High-speed Backhaul (HSBH), PTP Series 400, 500, or 600 Bridge
Cluster Management Module micro (CMMmicro)
Cluster Management Module-4 (CMM4)
Ultra Light Access Point (ULAP) or Motorola PMP 500 Series OFDM Access Point
Outdoor Subscriber Unit (OSU) or Motorola PMP 500 Series OFDM Subscriber Module
Powerline Low Voltage (PLV) Bridge
Powerline Low Voltage (PLV) Modem
Powerline Low Voltage (PLV) MDU Gateway
Powerline Low Voltage (PLV) Repeater
Group (non-element)
New Features in CNUT 3.11 The user can select whether the AP updates P7/P8/P9 or P10 SMs first during the SM auto update process. The user can select hardware platform as an attribute (HW Platform) whose value can be included in a network tree view. The Canopy Customer Support Information Tool no longer requires the root account access to a module before extracting information from the module. Any account has sufficient permission. Additional Fixes and Changes Running the Canopy Customer Support Information Tool no longer risks an incidental reboot of an AP in which more than 50 SMs are registered. .
CNUT 3.11 Release Notes Page 3 Issue 1 Known Issues Two items deserve operator attention: In a Windows platform, if you click on a Canopy networked device link in a file that the Canopy Customer Support Information Tool generates and then you make a change to the device via the resulting interface, the change renders the device unresponsive. The tool generates files for you to only send to the Canopy technical support team, not for you to use as diagnostics and not for you to click in for access to the management interfaces of your elements. Do not use these links. Until this issue is resolved, Canopy will continue to track it under Item ID 0008211. Upgrading to CNUT 3.11 over a pre-existing CNUT version may result in a failure of the JVM copy operation that should be automatically done by the installation tool. If the following directory is not present after the CNUT 3.11 installation tool has finished, then the copy operation failed: CNUT_Installation_Directory/NetworkUpdater/_jvm/bin
If this directory is not present, rerun the CNUT 3.11 installation tool, selecting the continue option as in the initial upgrade run of the tool. The rerun will put this critical directory and its contents into place. Until this issue is resolved, Canopy will continue to track it under Item ID 0008323. CNUT 3.11 Installation General Installation Information The CNUT 3.11 installation is a single file Install Anywhere installation. The installation file can be downloaded from the Canopy website at http://www.motorola.com/canopy. The operator must choose between the Windows version and the Red Hat Linux version of the installer. An md5 file is available and recommended for downloading and checking the integrity of the downloaded installation tool file.
After double-clicking on the installation file, the operator is guided through the installation. CNUT 3.11 automatically detects whether a previous release is already installed on the computer and prompts the operator to upgrade CNUT on the computer. This is the recommended installation practice, because the operator's existing preferences and external tools associated with their CNUT installation will automatically be imported into their CNUT 3.11 installation.
The operator can choose between a Typical installation (which is recommended) or a Custom installation. A Typical installation installs only the CNUT 3.11 components. The Custom installation allows the operator to choose whether to have CNUT Perl support libraries installed for use with any custom external tools they may have authored.
Full details about the CNUT 3.11 installation are provided in the Installation section of the CNUT 3.11 Help File.
