July 30, 2014 Complete Blood
Count
Blood test used to
evaluate overall
health and detect a
wide range of
disorders, including
anemia, infection and
leukema.

Blood test is
used to detect
certain medical
conditions and
determine
effectiveness of
drug therapies
HEMOGLOBIN:
male: 135-180
g/L

HEMATOCRIT:

120 g/L

Anemia. Low
haemoglobin level
may mean that your
body doesnt have
the ability to carry
oxygen as efficiently
as it should.
Due to the disease
process
experienced by the
patient, the
hematopoietic
status is
suppressed. CBC is
done, to rule out
any complications
that might alter the
normal status of the
patient that might
cause
complications.

in decrease oxygen
transport ability.
During the shift our
patient experienced
shortness of breath
and he manifested
elevated respiratory
rate which is a
complication of low
oxygen transport.

A low neutrophil
count decreases the
bodys ability to fight
infection. In the
condition of our
patient during our
shift, he manifested
intermittent fever
which is a sign and
manifestation of low

low component of
bodys fighting cells.

A high lymphocyte

compensatory
mechanism of the
body to fight
infection .A high

Thrombocytopenia.
Low platelet count
can be a sign and
indication of easy
bruising, bleeding
and at risk for
hemorrhage. During
our shift, our patient
manifested episode
of epistaxis , which
is a complication of
low platelet count.

July 30, 2014 Urinalysis Urinalysis is the
physical, chemical,
and microscopic
examination of urine.
It involves a number
of tests to detect and
measure various
compounds that pass
through the urine.
Urinalysis are
performed for
several reasons
such as: general
evaluation of
health, diagnosis
of metabolic or
systemic
diseases that
affect kidney
function,
diagnosis of
endocrine
disorders,
diagnosis of
diseases or
disorders of the
kidneys or
urinary tract,
monitoring of
patients with
diabetes, testing
for pregnancy
and screening for
drug abuse
Appearance:
Straw yellow

Color:
Clear

pH: 4.5-8.0

Specific Gravity:
1.010-1.025

WBC: 0-5/hpf

Dark yellow

Slightly turbid

Specific Gravity:
1.010

WBC:3-5/hpf

Darkened urine may
be related to acute
or chronic
underlying diseases
that affect other
regions of the body.

Indicates presence
of protein

Normal - The body
makes constant
adjustments in
tissue and fluid pH
to maintain this very
narrow pH range in
the blood.

Normal normal
water balance and
urine concentration.

Normal absence
of
infection/inflammatio
n in the renal
system.

RBC:0-5/hpf

Bacteria:

Sugar

Protein

RBC:2-4/hpf

Bacteria: Few

Negative

Normal no signs
of bleeding.

Bacteria presence
indicates that there
is infection

Normal good
kidney function.

Normal good
kidney function.

August 5, 2014 Lactate
dehydrogenase
routine chemistry
A l actate
dehydrogenase test
is a non specific test
that may be used in
the evaluation of a
number of diseases
and conditions. LS is
an enzyme that is
found in almost all of
the bodys cells and
is released from cells
into the flyid portion
of the blood when
cells are damaged or
destroyed.
As a general
indicator of the
existence and
severity of acute
or chronic
damage. It also
used to detect
and monitor
progressive
conditions such
as anemia or
severe infections.
It also used to
help stage,
determine
prognosis of
cancers like
lymphoma.
225-450 U/L 1916 U/L Elevated LDH
indicate tissue
damage, anemia,
and an indication of
certain cancer.Any
elevation from the
normal range may
indicate a relapse or
renewed growth.

Ultrasound An ultrasound create
s images that allow
various organs in the
body to be examined.
An ultrasound sc
an is a medical
test that uses
high-frequency
sound waves to
capture live
images from the
inside of your
body.
Enlarged spleen.
Normal liver,
gallbladder,
pancreas,
kidneys and
urinary bladder.

Multiple Enlarged
cervical node,
right.
Splenomegaly.
Enlarged spleen can
be caused by blood
diseases
characterized by
abnormal blood
cells, and problem
within the lymph
system.

Lymphadenopathy.
August 5, 2014 Radiographic
Imaging
Radiography is an
imaging technique
that uses
electromagnetic
radiation other than
visible light,
especially X-rays, to
view the internal
structure of a
uniformly composed
and opaque object.
Used to assess
the lungs as well
as the heart
Interpretation There are no
active lung
infiltrates. The
heart is not
enlarged and
bones are intact.
Unremarkable x-ray
findings

August 5, 2014 Microscopic Study/
Histopathology/
Incision biopsy
It is the study of
diseased tissue, is an
important tool in
anatomical
pathology. It is
commonly performed
by examining cells
and tissues by
sectioning and
staining, followed by
examination under
light microscope or
electron microscope.
It is conducted to
examine cells
and tissues and
be analyzed in a
laboratory,
Microscopic
Interpretation:
Sections show
skeletal muscle
tissues with
atrophic and
degenerative
changes
associated with
moderate
infiltrates of
mixed
inflammatory cells
and fibrosis.
There are no
epithelial
elements an no
evidence of
malignancy in
specimen
submitted.
Diagnosis:
Acute and chronic
inflammation.
Might be a
representative of
lesion.
