The Kettle Moraine Symphony (KMS) brings Italy to West
Bend on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 2 p.m. with Italian Voices.
The concertto be held at at Our Saviors Lutheran Church,
1044, S. Silverbrook Driveshowcases Italian opera and
composers, and features two arias performed by Deanna
Gibeau, soprano.
The 60-member orchestra is conducted by Paul
Thorgaard, KMS music director.
On the program are the Overture from the comic opera,
The Barber of Seville, by Gioachino Rossini, and a set of
three orchestral suites, Ancient Dances and Airs, by
Ottorino Respighi.
Soprano Gibeau of West Bend will take the role of
Cleopatra singing Piangero la sorte mia from George
Fredrick Handels finest Italian opera, Julius Caesar.
Gibeau will also sing the stunning O mio babbino caro
from Giacomo Puccinis 1918 comic opera, Gianni Schicci,
in which Lauretta expresses her love to her beloved father.
What a privilege it is for me to sing again with the Kettle
Moraine Symphony. Both arias are favorites of mine and I'm
especially grateful for the chance to channel Cleopatra
through the stunningly beautiful music of Handel, Gibeau
said.
Gibeaus is a familiar voice on the local arts scene,
including collaborations with the Kettle Moraine Symphony
and community musical theater where she has been involved
along with husband Peter, a music professor and KMS musi-
cian, and daughter Sophia. Gibeau studied vocal perform-
ance at Mannes College in New York City and currently
teaches private voice, is music director at St. James Episcopal
Church, sings with the a capella group QuintEssentials and
directs the Moraine Youth Choir.
