Modelmaker
If you didn't already know, Modelmaker is run by Geoff Perreira down on the south coast, and is predominately for
the South African Armour & Aircraft Modeller, but he has a few interesting things on there as well.
Its a fun site, lots of great guys and great models on show and they are always willing to help you out if you have
a problem with something that has wings or tracks.
Give the site a look see and have a gander at whats happening with the Armour and Fly Boys.

MFH - PORN IN 1/12TH SCALE
Even though the above toys are really magnificent pieces, below is what is getting everyones knickers in a
knot.
These are test shots of the new Porsche 956, in 1/12th Scale. The first time, I believe, its ever been made in
this scale. It looks like its going to be an EPIC kit, it looks like its going to be a HUUUGE kit and I have no
doubt it will cost just a tad bit more than the other two.

GARRY POWELL:
JOHANNESBURG
I started building when I was 6 years old and my first model was an Airfix Red Arrows Folland Gnat, which I proudly painted with the blood from my thumb, can you imagine the
horror today!
Growing up in the UK was definitely a plus from a model building point of view, and I
blame my Dad, I fondly remember sitting and watching him scratch-build model trains and
buses, its his entire fault, he got me hooked. Then I discovered Tamiya F1 models and
there was no hope anymore.
Over the years I have strayed into Aircraft and Armour, but my first love has always called
me back and these days I only build cars and bikes. Unlike a lot of guys I never took a
break in my late teens early 20s and even had a small tool kit and some parts with me
whilst I was doing my national service.
The big challenge is that I enjoy most areas of our hobby, even American cars. My greatest enjoyment and passion comes from the F1 and Le Mans cars from the 50s through to
the 80s, this for me is when drivers were drivers and the mechanics were scared , spectators were there to watch the racing not to be seen and sex really was the breakfast of
champions.
Over the years I have
gained a bit of a reputation as a multi- media
kit specialist, this is
largely due to the fact
that they are the ones
producing the subjects
I love, although they are
rather more challenging
than a FujiTamyiGawa
kit.
GARRY POWELL:
JOHANNESBURG
I also have a weakness in the fact that I will often prepare and paint the body of a model
and then put it back in the box for years sometimes. This also often means I have 4 or 5
active projects on the go at any one time.
If I had to name the biggest event in my car modeling career, it would have to be the advent of the SANNL, For the last 18 years this had been my yearly pilgrimage to likeminded
model building buddies, and has really lead to the development of my skills and even diversified my interests.
GARRY POWELL:
JOHANNESBURG
When asked recently by someone I consider to be a decent modeler, how I manage to get
such a scale shine on my cars, the only answer seemed obvious , patience, practice and a
dash more patience.
Live long and build them all !
PROJECT - S.N.O.T.T
The S.N.O.T.T. was equipped with a very specialised vehicle - the so-called Snottcar. Since the
domestic motor industry had already collapsed, 2000 Lancia Stratos were specially commissioned
from Fiat in Italy. They were delivered to Weikert Motor Works in South Carolina in batches of fifty.
Here they were extensively modified with transversely mounted fuel injected small block Chevrolet
engines in an armoured capsule that covered the rear wheels as well. A second armoured capsule
protected the occupants, and the nose was armoured as well. N.Ireland style grids protected the
sides of the vehicle.
Armament consisted of a single 50mm cannon on the passenger side with an infra-red sight mounted on the turret. A second infra-red unit was mounted on the left side of the roof, enabling the driver
to have perfect vision at night without the use of headlights. A smoke generator was installed on the
right hand side of the roof.
The first car was made operational early in 2018 and within six months, 250 Snottcars have been
put on the street. It is too early to judge the effectiveness of the unit, but the S.N.O.T.T, coupled to
Schwarzeneggers aggressive economic plan may be the last chance that America has to claw its
way back to being a respected nation!
