About C-DAC

Several technological achievements, events and recognitions marked this year as an important year in the history of C-DAC. On
February 8, 2013, C-DAC became the first organization in the country to cross the half petaflop milestone with the launch of
PARAM Yuva-ll by Shri J. Satyanarayana, Secretary, DeitY. C-DAC also conducted two technology conclaves at, Hyderabad and
Delhi to showcase its competency in building technologies and solutions for various end-user agencies. During the year, C-DAC
launched a number of flagship products including the launch of e-MSIPS at the hands of Shri Kapil Sibal, Hon'ble Minister for
Communications & Information Technology (MCIT), Govt. of lndia. C-DAC also bagged several awards including the National
Award for its Digital Programmable Hearing Aid product at the hands of His Excellency, The President of lndia, Shri Pranab
Mukherjee.
ln the area of HPC, C-DAC delivered several tools and applications for hybrid systems and Grid Computing. Several new
applications were enabled for grid. C-DAC launched its cloud platform, Meghdoot during the Technology Conclave at Hyderabad
thereby achieving a major milestone in cloud computing.
C-DAC developed and enhanced several tools, technologies and products for multi-lingual computing during this year. The
consortia projects enabled stronger collaboration among various technology players of the country. These included the CrossLingual Information Access (CLIA) consortia, Indian Language Text-to-Speech consortia, English to Indian Language Machine
Translation (EILMT) consortia, and consortia for Speech-to- Speech Machine Assisted Translation Dialogue System. A centre of
Excellence incubated for Marathi Language Computing was launched at the hands of Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Hon'ble Chief
Minister of Maharashtra.
In the area of Professional Electronics, C-DAC completed the development of WiTrac (Wireless Traffic Controller) and made its first
deployment this year. Few other technologies developed include Electromagnetic Log to measure the speed of a ship, Vehicular
Communication System (VCS), LED Luminaire, Human Occupancy Prediction System, Indoor Air Quality Monitoring System,
Synchronized Phasor' Measurement Unit (SPMU), Object based Real Time Expert Systems Shell (ORTESS), Autonomic Real Time
Multi Protocol Gateway (ARTMG), Self Recording lmage Surveillance System (SRISS), Distress Call Response Management System
(DCRMS), Portable Ultrasonic Landmine Sensor (PULS), Automatic Bio-Chemistry Analyzer (ABC Analyzer) and Wireless ECG
Sensor. Wider deployment of E-Vision and E-Nose systems was carried out during the year.
In the area of Software Technology, release of a new version of BOSS Linux operating system and its wider deployment were
carried out during the year. Several e-Governance applications and frameworks including e-Praman with Aadhaar, State eGovernance Service Delivery Gateway (SSDG), Mobile Services Delivery Gateway (MSDG), and Electronic Project Proposal System
(e-PPS) for DeitY and ICMR were developed /enhanced during the year. Some GIS enabled applications were also developed.
Enterprise-wide self-managed network solution - EDGE, a White-listing solution - AppSamvid, a URL analyzer, fingerprint
identification system, lris recognition and identity solution, Face recognition system, and Online signature verification system are
examples of a few security solutions developed during the year. Several training and awareness initiatives were carried out in the
area of Cyber Forensics for legal and law enforcement agencies.
In Health Informatics area, C-DAC carried out larger deployment of C-DAC's telemedicine solutions. Good progress was made
towards development of Mercury Nimbus Suite that will enable deployment of EHR (Electronic Health Record) and Telemedicine
services over cloud infrastructure. Other solutions developed are m-Health, mSwasthya, health care analysis tools, Medical image
analyzer for cervical cancer pre-screening, ECG analyzer for neurological disorder detection, and medical document semantic
analyzer.
Several e-Learning initiatives helped in conducting the education programs more effectively. Faculty development programs,
national skill development programs and several capacity building initiatives also formed important components of this area
during the year.
The above mentioned initiatives have resulted in several new collaborations with academic and research institutions both in India
and abroad, several research publications and patents, and many awards.

Dr. Vijay Bhatkar Founder & Chief Mentor, Know-IT

Dr. Vijay Bhatkar is one of the most acclaimed scientists and IT leaders of India. He is best
known as the architect of India's first supercomputer and as the founder Executive
Director of C-DAC, India's national initiative in supercomputing. He is credited with the
creation of several national institutions, notably amongst them being C-DAC, ER&DC,
IIITM-K, I2IT, ETH Research Lab, MKCL and India International Know-IT.
He has been a Member of Scientific Advisory Committee to Cabinet of Govt of India,
Governing Council Member of CSIR, India and e-Governance Committee Chairman of
Governments of Maharashtra and Goa.
A Fellow of IEEE, ACM, CSI, INAE and leading scientific, engineering and professional
societies of India, he has been honored with Padmashri and Maharashtra Bhushan
awards. Other recognitions include Saint Dnyaneshwar World Peace Prize, LokmanyaTilak
Award, HK Firodia and Dataquest Lifetime Achievement Awards, and many others. He was a nominee for Petersburg Prize
and is a Distinguished Alumni of IIT,Delhi.
Dr Bhatkar has authored and edited 12 books and 80 research & technical papers. His current research interests include
Exascale Supercomputing, AI, Brain-Mind-Consciousness, and Synthesis of Science & Spirituality.
He is presently the Chancellor of India International Know-IT, Chairman of ETH Research Lab, Chief Mentor of I2IT, and
National President of VijnanBharati.

Nachiketas is a Post Graduate in Automotive & Computer Engineering from Lawrence Technological
University, Michigan, USA. He completed his graduation in the field of Computer Engineering from MIT
Pune.

Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Computing (PG-DAC) :
Course Focus :
The Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Computing (DAC) is the flagship programme of ACTS. The course is targeted
towards engineers and IT professionals who wish to venture into the domain of advanced computing. The course aims to
groom the students to enable them to work on current technology scenarios as well as prepare them to keep pace with the
changing face of technology and the requirements of the growing IT industry.
The course curriculum has been designed keeping in view the emerging trends in advanced computing as well as

Pre-DAC :
Pre-DAC is a preparatory course for the C-CAT, which is an entrance examination of C-DAC for its PG Diploma courses.
Admissions to all PG Diploma courses of C-DAC are done through C-DAC's Computerized Common Admission Test
(C-CAT). Every year, C-CAT is usually conducted in June (for August admissions) and December (for February admissions).
C-CAT has three sections (Section A, Section B, Section C) of one hour duration each. Depending on the course(s) applied by
the candidate, he/she will have to either appear for just one test paper (Section A) or two test papers (Section A and Section
B) or all the three test papers (Section A, Section B and Section C). The medium of C-CAT is English.

2. Primary focus on conceptual understanding of subject
We strongly believe that once the fundamental concepts of programming, database and web technology are crystal
clear, understanding of advanced modules like .Net and Java becomes quite simple.
3. Our own course material designed specifically for DAC course
Considering the hectic schedule of DAC course, it becomes difficult for students to read the reference books. We
address this problem by providing our own course material that is customized to focus mainly on the structure and
content of DAC course. This is found to be extremely helpful in managing the vast course content effectively.
4. Practical implementation in labs through assignments and mini-projects for all subjects
Technology knowledge is incomplete without its implementation in labs. For every subject, we have a list of
individual assignments that help you practice all concepts independently. We also have a mini-project for each
module that gets developed gradually till the end of that module with every session adding new feature to it. This
gives students a real insight into application of knowledge for addressing real life problems.
5. Verification of Knowledge transferred to students through frequent online tests and mock interviews
We complete the training of each module with end module test. Results of these tests are used for arranging revision
sessions or individual counseling, if needed.
