Part B: Lions.
Hello, good morning class. Have you ever went to Zoo previously? Today, I am going to
talk about lions. Lions are big cat from Felidae family, known as the King of the Jungle.
Sitting at the top of the food chain, lions are mammals that can get up to 8 feet long and
weighing over 500 pounds. It is the second-largest living cat after the tiger. The male
lions have thick brown mane around their neck to protect them while fighting, and to
distinguish them from the females. Lions can be found in Africa and India.
Baby lions are called cubs and a group of lion is called a pride. A pride consist of
lionesses, their cubs and few male lions. Lions typically inhabit savannahs, grassland,
open forest and scrub country. Most of the day, lions just resting in their shade. They
store up their energy for hunting where they can run extremely fast for short periods to
capture their prey. Lions tend to be active and do their hunt around dusk or dawn.
Majority of the hunting were done by the lionesses while the lions guard the pride and
protect the cubs.
Lions are carnivores and they eat meats. They can take down any decent sized animal
includes buffalo, antelope and zebras. They occasionally kill large beasts like elephants,
giraffes, and rhino. They can live from 10 to 15 years in the wild.
