Sharon's mission to maintain the highest standards in the manufacturing process helped it
become the first plywood & veneer manufacturer in Tamil Nadu to be awarded the ISO 9002
certificate.
Sharon's commitment to this mission was recognised further by an up gradation from ISO 9002
to ISO 9001 (2000).
Sharon has also added another first to its credit, by becoming the first plywood manufacturer in
Tamil Nadu to be acknowledged for its responsibility towards environment, with the ISO 14001
certificate conferred for total Eco-protection & recently awarded the Eco Friendly & Health
& Safety Management System Certificate for adhering to safe procedures & all norms while
Manufacturing Low Emission Plywood. Sharon's commitment to quality has also earned it

and BWR grade.

Brief Background
Sharon Veneers (P) Ltd. was established in the year 1987 with the aim of producing premium
plywood in India. Towards this end, Sharon sources hardwood from the tropical forests of
Indonesia, Myanmar and Malaysia, reputed to be the ideal raw material for manufacturing
plywood.
The fact that the company uses only single species imported hardwood for core and face veneers
is a standing testimony to uncompromising quality. The company's state-of-the-art factory is
located in Gummidipundi, 48 kilometers from Chennai. Spread over 40 acres, the factory
manufactures dry face veneers and wide range of plywood and boasts of the latest technology in

This study would give an overview of the welfare measures at Sharon plywood. Since safety and
welfare are the two important elements essential for improving the productivity of the
organization, a study on the existing welfare measures would help the organization perform
better. This study would throw light on the perception of the employees regarding welfare.
LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
The data was collected during the working hours the employees were busy in their routine work
so they were less expensive
The data is collected from the casual and permanent employees and hence the opinion of contract
workers is not collected.
Inadequacy of time was a major limiting factor faced by researcher.
