ohms
Uses
Nitoflor Conductive is suitable for use in areas where a static conductive with a resistance between 5x10
4
and 1x10
6
ohms is required as a measure to control static electricity. Typical areas of use include electronics manufactures and assembly, hospital operating theatres, hazardous dust and chemical environments and clean rooms. For dissipative floors with different electrical characteristics, the use of Nitoflor Dissipative should be considered (see separate data sheet).
Advantages
Static control - provides static electricity with an effective passage to earth.
Seamless - smooth, hygienic surface which is easily cleaned, unlike vinyl tiles which are not seamless.
Durable - long term performance, accepts fork lift traffic, more durable than vinyl tiles.
Attractive - wide range of colours enhances working environment.
Resists most chemical spillage.
Standard compliance
Nitoflor Conductive has a surface resistance between 5 x 10
4
and 1 x 10
6
ohm when measured in accordance with ASTM F150-78. Nitoflor Conductive also satisfies BS 2050 and DIN 51953. Independent test reports are available.
Description
Nitoflor Conductive is a 2 mm thick epoxy resin floor topping with controlled conductive properties. The system comprises an epoxy primer, conductive epoxy undercoat and a 2 mm thick epoxy top coat. It is available in a wide range of attractive colours and provides a highly durable, chemically resistant seamless floor.
Technical support
Fosroc offers a comprehensive range of high performance, high quality repair, maintenance and construction products. In addition, Fosroc offers a technical support package to specifiers, end-users and contractors as well as on-site technical assistance in locations all over the world.
Design criteria
Nitoflor Conducive is designed for application at a nominal thickness of 2 mm. It should be installed where static conducive floor with resistance between 5 x 10
4
and 1 x 10
6
ohms is required. Nitoflor Conductive is designed to dissipate static electricity away from the source to earth. Substrates should be dry and not suffer, or be likely to suffer, from rising damp. If necessary, suitable damp-proof membranes should be installed to prevent this. Substrates should not have a relative humidity greater than 75% at the time of installation.

Maintenance
The service life of a floor can be considerably extended by good housekeeping and regular cleaning. The ability of a conductive floor to effectively control static electricity can be affected by a surface layer of dirt, grease or other residue. Nitoflor conducting floors should not be treated with waxes or polishes. For specific floor maintenance schedules consult the local Fosroc office.
Application clauses
Static conductive epoxy floor topping
The designated floor areas shall be surfaced with Nitoflor Conducive, a 2 mm thick flow-applied epoxy resin floor topping. The topping shall provide a surface and bulk resistance between 5 x 10
4
and 1 x 10
6
ohms when tested to DIN 51953 and ASTM F150-78 respectively. When tested to BS 6319, it shall achieve a compressive strength of 60 N/mm
2
, a flexural strength of 40 N/mm
2
and a tensile strength of 18 N/mm
2
. When tested to Federal Specification 141A it shall exhibit a weight loss no greater than 97 mg and depth of wear no greater than 0.03 mm after 1000 cycles using a CS 17 wheel of 1000 g weight. When tested to BS 8204, Part 1, the floor shall exhibit an indentation after impact no greater than 0.2 mm. At 20
o
C, it shall be capable of accepting foot traffic at 24 hours and vehicular traffic after 48 hours.
Application instructions
Nitoflor Conductive should be installed by specialist applicators who must follow the procedures laid down in the Product Application Guide. Fosroc works with a network of such applicators who have been fully trained in the correct installation procedures. The following steps are involved which would normally take place over a 3 to 5 day period.
Thoroughly prepare the floor surface. Correct surface preparation helps to achieve the necessary adhesive bond between the substrate and the new floor.
All existing expansion or movement joints should be followed through the new coating surface. Joints should be cleaned and prepared.
Apply Nitoprime 25 and Nitoprime 30 and allow to cure. Porous substrates may require two coats of primer.
Install joint and earthing connections in full accordance with Fosroc's Product Application Guide.
Apply Nitoflor Conductive Undercoat. This provides a conductive passage to earth and correct application and strict adherence to coverage rates are critical to the final electrical properties of the completed floor.
Apply the Nitoflor Conductive Topping. The material is poured on to the undercoat by brush or roller short hair to achieve 2 mm seamless topping. Allow to harden.
Install the appropriate Fosroc joint sealant. This will depend on the anticipated movement accommodation factor and the end use of the new floor. For further advice, consult the local Fosroc office. Installation time will vary with site conditions, the size of the area involved and the system chosen.
Cleaning
Nitoflor Conductive Undercoat should be removed from tools and equipment with clean water immediately after use. Nitoprime 25, Nitoprime 30 and Nitoflor Conductive Topcoat should be removed from tools and equipment using Fosroc Solvent 102. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.
Limitation
Nitoflor Conductive should not be applied to slabs less than 28 days old or surfaces known to, or be likely to suffer from, rising damp conditions or have a relative humidity greater than 75% when measured in accordance with BS 8203:1987, Appendix A or by a Vaisala thermo-hygrometer Type 131. Nitoflor Conductive should not be applied to asphalt, unmodified sand/cement screeds, PVC or vinyl surfaces. Nitoflor Conductive should not be installed at temperatures below 10
o
C. For information on other substrates, consult the local Fosroc office.

Whilst Fosroc endeavours to ensure that any advice, recommendation, specification of information it may give is accurate and correct, it cannot, because it has no direct or continuous control over where or how its products are applied, accept any liability either directly or indirectly arising from the use of its products, whether or not in accordance with any advice, specification, recommendation of information given by it.
The coverage figures given are theoretical – due to wastage factors and the variety and nature of possible substrates, particle coverage figures will be reduced. Typically, an additional 10% should be allowed for surface irregularities and wastage although this will vary with site conditions.
UN packaging regulations
To comply with current regulations, all products of a hazardous nature which are subjected to a sea crossing as part of their delivery requirements, must be packed in UN approved receptacles. When a known sea crossing is involved, whether locally or for export, Fosroc will supply in the correct UN packaging. Where Fosroc are requested to deliver within a mainland boundary but the Purchaser intends to onward ship, it is incumbent upon the Purchaser to specify that UN packaging is required at the time of placing the order. Otherwise, once received, responsibility rests with the Purchaser. The use of UN packaging may affect the selling price of products. Please consult the local Fosroc Area Manage or office.
