Computer Usage: Some computing skills will be useful. You are welcome to use a
programming language or computing package of your choice but I will present examples
using SAS and (or) SPSS. Some of the homework solutions or lecture presentations will contain
computer output from SAS/SPSS. Students in this university have online access to virtual
SAS/SPSS using VDI desktops (See the attached paper for more details).

Scale: 100-90% (A), 89-80% (B), 79-70% (C), 69-60% (D), < 60% (F)
A final grade of Incomplete or I is given only in the event of a verifiable personal
emergency.

Homework: Homework problems will be assigned throughout the semester. I will either give
problems from the textbook or assign other problems that will be posted in D2L Online. The
due date will be given when the homework is assigned and it is due at the class on the due
date. All the homework should be submitted individually (unless it is specified as a group) to
the instructor. You may turn in late homework assignments with a penalty of 10% per day late.
Homework will not be accepted after graded homework is returned.
Project: The project will be assigned midway through the semester and may consist of both
written and oral components. More details regarding the project will be given later in the
semester.
Exams: There will be a midterm exam and a comprehensive final exam in this course. The
exams are closed-book and closed-notes. The midterm exam will be approximately halfway
through the semester with the exact date to be determined by a convenient break in the
material. You will be given at least one week notice prior to the midterm exam. The
comprehensive final exam will be held on Tuesday, December 8th 2015 from 8:00pm to 9:50pm.
Class Attendance and Active Participation: Regular attendance and active participation in
classes are essential elements in the learning process. Students are expected to attend all class
sessions beginning with and including the first class session. Also, students are expected to be
on time to class and stay in the class until the end. The class starts at 6.45pm with attendance
being taken at the beginning of randomly selected class periods. If a student misses a roll call
because of tardiness, it will result in an absence. Absences will be permitted only when
advance notice is given to the instructor for a verifiable reason. Also I expect you to come to
the classes having reviewed the material covered in the previous class, having read the text,
and having questions related to class material or homework. This preparation for class is
essential so that you will learn not just passively watch. I also expect appropriate and
courteous classroom behavior at all times.
