THE BLIND SIDE REVIEW

By: Vanni Firdaus

Let me begin my review with one word to describe this movie;
inspiring. This true-life story got me crying the whole time I watched this
movie. The Blind Side movie, is just like a roller coaster. I cheered when the
things go well, cried and cursed when they dont.
Based on the amazing and remarkable true story of a football player
Michael Oher, who once being a homeless black teenager and then plucked
off the road on an icy winter night by a well-lived white family. Sandra
Bullock played a chracter named Leigh Anne Tuohy, a spitfire of a mom,
smart, and sassy kind of lady. She played this character very well, and I was
being amazed by her.
The Blind Side is about Michael Oher becoming a professional
football player, but more so, about how his adoption into the Tuohy family
got him there. Michael Oher who is played by Quinton Aaron (Im surprised
seeing him in this movie because his acting is so great, and because I have
seen him in The Appearing Movie which is a horror movie, its kinda
surprising to me to see him in The Blind Side not in a horror movie.) is
being invited by Leigh Anne Tuohy to sleep for a night in her home. Think
shes crazy? Well for a brief moment I thought that shes crazy too. I mean,
really? Would you take a homeless black teenager who you never met to
your home with your expensive belongings, your husband, Sean (Tim
McGraw), and your two young children, Collins and S.J. (Lily Collins and
Jae Head)? I guess not. By the way, speaking about Lily Collins, Im little
bit upset to find out that she doesnt have pretty much lines in this movie. I
mean come on, shes an amazing actress. And such a beautiful creature too.
Have you seen her in Stuck In Love? Or Love, Rosie? Or any other great
movies that she played? She killed them. Okay back to the movie, turns out
Michaels appearance belies his gentle personality, and he soon becomes
part of the Tuohy family. Yay!
Michael, it turns out, will have the weight, size and speed to block
the Lawrence Taylors of the world, an increasingly valuable commodity in
the football world. And that's where the Tuohys come in, as a football
obsessed family, they nurture his raw talent; as fundamental Christians, they
keep an eye on his soul.
Leigh Touhys role in this movie is also varied as she is not potrayed
as a giver but also as a mother to someone elses child, Michael Oher. This
is what makes the story unique. Its not just about a rich woman being
charitable to a poor boy or the rise of an unlikely athlete; its about the
transformation of a family. Because its not just Michael Oher who
transformed, but also the family who first is not really close to each other
but as Michael came, they become a whole close family.
And now lets talk about Tim McGraw role. Just as Sean (Tim
McGraw) is the token yes-man husband rolling with Leigh Annes big
ideas, Tim McGraw is often in Sandra Bullocks shadow, but he also
effectively softens her character.
Michael ends up enrolled in the private Christian school where the

Tuohy kids go. The plot line is very deep, so much that there are point of
view scenes in which is viewed from Oher's point of view. The lines when
he goes to school and says "Every thing I see is white" is a true
representative of the fact. And when he said that my heart be like
YAAAAS this is where the plot plunges deeper into Oher's mind by
reflecting how alienated he feels in the society.
There is a big change of plot twist and knowledge involved when
Michael Oher is led to believing that his adoptive mother, Leigh Anne is
doing all this for her because she wants him to get into her alma mater. This
angers him and he goes to confront Leigh Anne who is very hurt by this. I
mean, of course shes hurt. Shes giving him everything for his future but
instead, hes confronted. This pattern of development delayed the
achievement of the major goal which is success and happiness. The
revelation then follows and leads to the turning point when Michael accepts
to go to the University of Mississipi on the basis that his entire family went
there. You go Michael, you go.
And let me tell you what I learned from Sandra Bullocks role as
Leigh Anne Touhy, as a adoptive mother for Michael, that she begins to
piece together the depressing back story of Michaels life, he begins to trust
that she will be there for him. And also, as she infuses the role with
empathy, not pity; he brings an aching vulnerability and an innocence that
are remarkable for someone with no formal training. This is how you should
help someone. With empathy. Not freaking feeling only pity for them.
Beside Leigh Anne role in Michaels life, He becomes a decent
student in large part thanks to the help of his tutor Miss Sue (Kathy Bates),
another Ole Miss (alma meter of Leigh Anne) alumn. Kathy Bates nailed
this role. She played the Miss Sue perfectly. Showing how patient and kind
Miss Sue is to Michael. High five to you Miss Sue.
Over all, this movie is inspiring. So much inspiring. If you give The
Blind Side a chance, the payoff is enormous. I dare you to sit down, watch
the movie by yourself if you afraid of people seeing you cry like a baby.
And feel the emotions run through your body while watching how Michael
Ohers life transformed. The chills. Its real dude. Its real. And the feels
with hit you so hard right in the heart when the screen fades to black and
runs through a montage of the real Michael Oher and the real Tuohy family.
The movie is generally enjoyable. Like, you can watch it with your
family, with your boyfriend or girlfriend, or with your friends. But wait until
the credits roll that youll realize what a major sentimental impact it has on
you.
And to end this amazing review by me, Im just going to advise you
all, dont be too picky on movies. This movie cover may not get your
interest, but when you watch this, trust me, youll cry a river. Good job
Hollywood, good job.
