Course Outcomes (Cos)

At the end of the course the student will be able to

1. Remember the values of minimum and maximum cement consumption in section
of the beams and

columns and tank walls ordinarily used in every day structure.

2. Identify the various types of deformations in different structures e.g. compression

tension hoop occurring at a particular structure at least qualitatively.
3. Design a structure/component, to meet desired needs within realistic constraints
such as economy,
environment friendly, safety, viable construction and its sustainability as per the
codal provisions.
4. Analyze and design different elements of reinforced concrete structural elements
under gravity loads and submit the designs in complete and concise manner.
5. Comment on the overall performance of the structure and can predict useful life of
the structure.

b. A right angled triangular slab is simply supported along the two

edges. The length the supported edges are 3 m & 4 m respectively.
The slab is isotropically reinforced with 8 mm bars spaced at 100
mm centers both ways. The average effective depth of the slab is 95
mm and total depth is 120 mm. Determine the safe permissible
service live load on the slab. Assume dead load of floor finishing as
1.5 kN/mt2. Use M20 grade concrete and Fe 415 steel

a. Derive the equation for the ultimate moment of resistance mu
