Abstract
Power generation from the non-conventional
sources is the need of the day. Wind energy is one
of the major fields, where various conversion
topologies have been proposed in order to produce
electric power. In the past 30 years, the size of
wind turbines and the size of wind power plants
have increased significantly. Applications such as
reactive power compensation, static transfer
switches, energy storage, and variable speed
generations are commonly found in modern wind
power plants.

1. Introduction
Power generation from the non-conventional
sources is the need of the day. Wind is one of the
cost-effective with respect to other renewable
energy sources available. Wind electrical power
systems are cost competitive, environmentally
clean and safe renewable power sources compared
to fossil fuel and nuclear power generation.
