WORLD TOILET DAY

November 19, 2015

I. INTRODUCTION
The United Nations declaration of World Toilet Day is celebrated
every November 19. This year the theme for the said celebration is
Equality, Dignity and Link Between Gender-Based Violation and
Sanitation
For World Toilet Organization, World Toilet Day is a day to take
action. It is a day to raise awareness about all people who do not have
access to a toilet despite the human right to water and sanitation. It
is a day to do something about it.
II. OBJECTIVES
With the tag line WeCantWait, the celebration aims to increase
the awareness and provide opportunity to inspire action and
underscore the urgency needed to open defecation, especially for
women and girls who are particularly vulnerable. The celebration also
highlights that improving sanitation is critical to
ensure
positive
nutrition and
health
outcomes which is the building block of a
sustainable future.
III. HIGHLIGHTS
The World Toilet Day started with a Flag Ceremony, followed by a
short talk with the students about the situation experienced by many
students from other countries who still practice open defecation. It also
includes discussion regarding correct usage of restrooms and the
effects of not practicing good hygiene. After the program,
representatives from different grade levels led by the WaSH club
simultaneously clean the restrooms to raise awareness among their
fellow students to use the restrooms properly. Teachers also supported
the celebration by integrating the concept of sanitation throughout
their class.
IV. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
The problem we encountered during the activity was when the
students started cleaning the restrooms. There were some drainage

that are already defective because of improper waste disposal by the

students. Other than that, there were no problems encountered.

V. RECOMMENDATIONS
Sanitation plays an important role in our health. It is encourage
to practice this not just in school but also in our own home. This way
we can protect each one of us from certain diseases. Teachers and
parents should also promote and teach the young ones how to have a
good hygiene. Lastly, it is recommended that school officials,
stakeholders, public and private sectors should work hand in hand to
think of ways how to provide a better and sustainable sanitation
throughout the country.
