The Border Security Force's camel contingent, which has been taking part in the Republic Day parade for over six decades,

THE DELHI government

Wednesday said its claim that
the CBI raided Chief Minister
Arvind Kejriwals office on
December 15 has been proved
right in the court of law.
Earlier in the day, a special
court had directed the agency to
return some documents seized
by it during the raid.
Chief Minister Arvind
Kejriwal said that the Prime
Ministers Office (PMO) owed
an explanation to the nation.
After todays CBI court order directing release of docs seized
from CMO, PMO owes an explanation to the nation since CBI reports to PM, he tweeted.

The courts directive had

proved that the CBI intended to
raid the chief ministers office
(CMO) and the raid was not related to corruption allegations
against Kejriwals principal secretary Rajendra Kumar, said
Deputy Chief Minister Manish
Sisodia. He also demanded an
apology from Prime Minister
Narendra Modi over the politically motivated raid.
In Parliament, it was said
thattheraidwasnotontheCMs
office. We want to ask whether
the Prime Minister will now
apologise in front of the country? It was an attempt to discredit the government... he
should apologise for the politically motivated raid. His officers
had misinformed him... they
took random files on the pretext

of a raid, said Sisodia.

TheDelhigovernmentislooking into whether action can be
taken against officials who conductedtheraid,saidSisodia.We
hope that action will be sought
againstofficialswhowerepartof
theraid...thoseofficialsshouldbe
held accountable, he said.
On the courts order, Sisodia
said, The court has... observed
that the CBI was in a hurry for
unknown reasons. We have always maintained that the CBI
raid was a political one and the
agency had used the office of
Rajendra Kumar to raid the CMs
office. Today, this has been
proved and accepted by the
court as the CBI could not prove
to the court why the agency requireddocumentsfrom2015for
amatterthattookplacebetween

2007 and 2013, said Sisodia.

The court has categorically
observed this was an illegal and
improper exercise, Sisodia said.
The files were on transfer
postings, on the visitors to CMs
office... there were some files of
the transport department.
Today, the CBI also accepted that
the documents the agency had
procuredhadnothingtodowith
thedocumentsitwaslookingfor.
The CBI is investigating an alleged scam that took place during the previous governments
tenure... yet, you are taking files
ontherecruitmentof volunteers
during the odd-even scheme
and on the food and supplies department. This means the CBI
had come there with an intention to discredit the CMs office,
said Sisodia.

Hepatitis C patients with certain gene Water shortage in the offing Haunted and historical: Tourism

type more prone to diabetes: Study
ministry highlights citys spooky side
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, JANUARY 20

PATIENTSWITHHepatitisCwho
also carry a particular type of
gene may be more prone to developing diabetes, a two-year
studybySirGangaRamHospital
has found.
The study on more than 100
Hepatitis C patients has found
that in those carrying non-CC
genotype of interleukin-28b
gene, the possibility of developing diabetes is 31 per cent, compared to 13 per cent in those carrying CC genotype of the same
gene.
The study has been accepted
for publication in the coming issue of the Journal of Clinical and
Translational Hepatology. Dr
Anil Arora, the principal investigator of the study, said the nonCC genotypes were associated
with insulin resistance. There is
an association between inter-

leukin-28b gene and insulin resistance, which in turn leads to

diabetes, added Dr Arora, head
of gastroenterology at Sir Ganga
Ram Hospital.
Doctors studied 115 patients
with Hepatitis C-related chronic
liver diseases between 2012 and
2014.
When we put both the categories of the interleukin-28b
gene together, diabetes prevalence was 22 per cent, which is
anyway higher than the general
population. So patients with
hepatitis, irrespective of the
genotype of the gene do have a
higher chance of contracting diabetes. But those with the particular genotype we analysed, or
patients from a particular subgroup of hepatitis C, have an
even higher chance of getting
the disease, said Dr Arora.
Doctors have said in the
study that testing for this gene
may be useful in patients of
Hepatitis C, in order to deter-

mine their likelihood of developing diabetes mellitus.

Recently, manyepidemiological studies had shown a significant two-way association between diabetes mellitus and
HepatitisCvirusinfection.While
many of these have shown that
people with diabetes are more
prone to acquire Hepatitis C,
studies are now showing the
correlation is true the other way
round too.
According to doctors, when
Hepatitis C and diabetes affect
patients at the same time, there
is rapid progression of liver cirrhosis and a high chance of liver
cancer.Becauseof thistwo-way
association of diabetes mellitus
and HCV infection, it is advisable
that all diabetics should get
tested for HCV. This is especially
true for those diabetics who
have liver function tests abnormalities which can be an early
indicator of developing insulin
resistance, said Dr Arora.
