This document is a drilling application that contains design data for a drill string, including the depth, fluid density, maximum weight on bit, and margin of overpull. It lists the drill pipe and bottom hole assembly data, with results showing the maximum drill pipe length, length to run, cumulative string weights in air and mud. It also contains a collapse verification section. The end notes that using a margin of overpull in design means each pipe section can tolerate the same excess load when freeing stuck pipe.

Class THE END Those who use the Margin of Overpull in drill string design do so on the premise the difference between the maximum normal working load and the load on each pipe section would be equal. There fore, when tension is applied to free the stuck pipe, each section can tolerate the same load in excess of it's weight and no single weaker section will limit the load which can be applied to the pipe. It is best that the design start with a pipe that will probably have a better than the anticipated tensile rating.
