1. INTRODUCTION
In this exercise, a Trolley Beam and the existing supported decks are
analyzed using Finite Element Method is ansys for pre/post-processing of
model and result. The structures geometry as per Drawing No. GOM-022-S004-R4, Big Bag 3T Trolley Beam at SACK ROOM.
The geometry model of 3T Trolley Beam and the existing Support structures
are modeled into ansys using the dimension given. Structures such as I-Beam
as beam elements, and later being assigned to the properties accordingly.
The 3T Trolley Beam and Support geometry models are shown in Figure 1
below.

condition. This model is analyzed under the linear static solution in ansys is
used to pre/post-process the result upon computation.

Load divided into 2 item below; 1. Safe working load Trolley Beam = 3 Ton,
2. Total weight hoist/trolley weight hoist/trolley beam = 0.075 Ton.
So the Total Trolley Beam loading is 3T + 0.075 = 3.075 x 9810
= 30165.75 N. These loads were applied to the surfaces of the H-Beam
multiply by safety factor 2. Therefore, the total load is 60331.5 N,
Which is transferred to the H Beam Supports.

CONSTRAINTS
Fixed at deck edges of the existing plates and pipe supports.
Note:
1) The coordinate system shown above corresponds to the geometry model
in Ansys.
2) Coordinate System:
+ve x-axis towards forward of the rig
+ve y-axis towards portside of the rig
+ve z-axis towards top of the rig
The forces loading are assigned to the node to stimulate the actual force
distribution. The perimeter of the deck, bulkheads, and frames are modeled

as constraints of type FIXED in ANSYS, i.e., restraining degrees-offreedom in the translational and rotational directions of x, y and z. Figure 5
shows the constraint applied on the analyzed model.
5.
The standard model check and validation were carried out for this analysis.
The first check is to merge all coincident nodes and points to avoid any
unnecessary degrees-of-freedom in the model which will produce unsymmetry in the overall stiffness matrix assembly, hence resulting in a rigidbody-motion.
Total applied force summation is also carried out to ensure the correct
amount of loading is applied.
6.
LINEAR-STATIC ANALYSIS
The bounding box for all positioned bodies in the model measures 500.0 by
4,800.0 by 1,021.52 mm along the global x, y and z axes, respectively.
The model has a total mass of 426.95 kg.
The model has a total volume of 5.44107 mm.

* Allowable stress of 211.7 Mpa is taken from 1.11 safety factor for
combined loading condition as defined by ABS (MODU).
From the table above, it shows that the maximum stress and deformation
occurred due to the Load Case 1 where the deformation and Von-Misses
stress are 0.94 mm and 26.556 Mpa respectively.
The stress/deformation mesh plots and contours for Load case 1 were
performed below.
