Our Qualifications
Our qualifications are the culmination of expert input from colleges, higher education institutes,
industry professionals and our qualification development team.
We have developed a suite of awards, certificates and diplomas that offer progression from level 4
up to level 7.
Key features of the qualifications include:
core units that are common to different sectors offering the opportunity for learners to move between sectors,
or delay decisions about specialisation
small qualifications that can be used for professional development for those in employment, or for learners
who do not have the time to undertake a full time programme
flexible methods of assessment allowing tutors to reflect the most appropriate methods for their learners
The following chart shows how learners could potentially progress through our qualifications and through to our progression routes.
These routes are only examples, the decision to recruit a learner onto a programme is made by the college following their own
recruitment policies in line with ATHE guidance.

ATHE believes that learning should meet the needs of
participants, developing their knowledge, understanding and
skills. This will lead to personal and professional benefits for
the individuals involved and help to meet the commercial or
charitable aims for any sponsoring organisation.

ATHE has worked closely with a wide variety of organisations

in different sectors to develop existing and new programmes
into qualifications. These programmes have been in different
areas of learning and at a range of levels and size of
programme.

If you are an employer, college or training provider, your

programme can be accredited to become a recognised
qualification.

Examples of our work

Professional Associations

"

ARMA identified a need for a qualification which could be

offered to members and reflected the professionalism of
research management and administration and the increased
stature of people undertaking these roles in their organisations.

"

The Association of Research Managers and Administrators

(ARMA) developed level 3 qualifications in partnership with
ATHE. ARMA is a professional body which represents people
working in the research administration departments of
universities.

ATHE worked with me to ensure that ARMAs Level 3 Certificate in Research Administration was in the correct format and
language for it to be accredited by Ofqual. The ATHE Head of Qualifications was excellent - extremely quick to grasp our aims and
punctual and clear in her feedback. Marie Garnett, Head of Professional Development at ARMA

Independent Colleges
An independent college based in Gateshead approached
ATHE after identifying a need for learners to receive a regulated
qualification upon completing their studies.

The task was to produce a regulated qualification which

accurately reflected the intended outcomes of the existing
programme of learning.

They had been offering courses to learners successfully for

many years.

After developing the ATHE Level 3 Certificate and Diploma

in Torah Studies, ATHE is now working with this college to
develop a qualification for teaching assistants.

Further Education Colleges

ATHE is working with a large General Further Education
college to recognise qualifications the college has developed in
business and customer services and health and social care at
level 2 for delivery overseas.

These qualifications will be delivered across Africa and India

to a wide range of learners, so it was important to develop
the qualifications in a way which meets the need of learners
in a range of situations.

Distance Learning Colleges

Online Business School (OBS) provides learning programmes
to both individual learners and satellite centres around the
world. ATHE worked with OBS to develop Diplomas in
Computing at levels 4 and 5.

As these qualifications are for learners using a range of

study modes, including in the classroom and online, it
was important to develop individual units which provided
flexibility and allow learners to achieve irrespective of their
learning situation.

Progression Routes
ATHE has always had a close relationship with a number of universities and ensured that
learners have a variety of progression routes from our qualifications. ATHE qualifications have
a vocational focus enabling learners to progress straight into employment or to higher level
qualifications such as a university degree.
ATHE qualifications also enable progression to universities in Europe and Canada, please see www.athe.co.uk/universities
Some of the progression routes below may depend on which units the learner has studied.
