Case 7-1: Configuring File Screening

Bentech.local is discovering that a large number of employees are storing
non-work related files on their corporate servers. Most of these files
utilize a .mp3 and .wmv format. In an effort to reduce the storage impact
of unwanted user data, the company has asked you suggested how they
can manage this issue. Describe what technologies you would utilize to
manage this issue, along will how you would implement on their file
server with the following characteristics:

The name of the file server is FS-SRV-005

The shared folders on the server available to all users are \\fs-srv005\SharedData and \\fs-srv-005\Users\<username>\.
Windows Server 2008 provides the ability to filter files as they are stored.
This technology is called file screening. It is available through the Filer
Services Resource Manager.
Install the File Server role and the FSRM role feature

Open FSRM and expand till you reach file Screen

Mangement.
Highlight File Screens and choose create new file screen
from the Actions menu
Choose Derive properties from this file screen template:
(recommended) and select Block Audio and Video Files.
Click Create.

Case 7-2
Bentech.local has two remote sites in Chicago and Indianapolis. They
would like the data stored in each location to be available to end users in
the Minneapolis corporate headquarters. They wish to minimize the
impact this will have on the corporate network. Also, they would like to
be able to centrally backup all of the file resources from each location.
What File Service technologies can be used as possible solutions to these
needs?
DFS Replication can be used to centralize files for backup from remote
locations.

Case 7-3 : Setting up Shared folder resources w/ Offline

capability on CS-SC-001
In this project, you will be creating two shared folder resources,
OfflineApps and OfflineFiles, for end users. These folders need to be set
so that end users will automatically have their files and applications
available offline after they access them. This will be implemented on CSSC-001.
Use md or Windows Explorer to create 2 folders on CS-SC-001 called
OflineApps and Offlinefiles
Share each folder with NetShare or the Shared Folder Wizard
Set each share to automatically make files available offline for users
the first time they are accessed.
