1. What requirements must you meet in order to study abroad? (i.e. GPA, etc.)
To be eligible to study abroad, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 for
semester or year-long programs and a cumulative GPA of 2.50 for summer
programs, at the time of application. Students must also have at least sophomore
standing during the abroad period and they cannot be in the final semester of a
degree program.
2. What are the three (3) different types of study abroad programs available to
students?
Study Abroad may take place under the following conditions:
1. Exchange provides students an affordable way to participate in study abroad.
These programs utilize an established relationship between specific universities
that exchange students with each other with each student paying the tuition and
fees at their home university and not at the host university;
2. Direct Study Abroad program is administered by an organization offering study
abroad support services (i.e. School for International Training (SIT); American
Institute for Foreign Studies (AIFS); International Studies Abroad (ISA).
3. Faculty-Led - programs that are organized and/or accompanied by an NCAT
faculty member, usually during the summer.
3. What are the deadlines for applying for study abroad?
For a study abroad program during the spring, the deadline is October 14. The
deadline for a study abroad program occurring during the summer/fall is March 15.
4. What are three different ways that you can raise money to fund your trip?
One way to raise money to fund a study abroad trip is through financial aid. Two
other ways to raise money for the trip are through scholarships and fellowships.
5. Name two (2) scholarships that can fund you for your trip and how you meet the
requirements?

The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship enables students who have


limited financial means to participate in study abroad opportunities
worldwide. The programs provide awards of up to $5,000 for U.S. citizen
undergraduate students. To be eligible students must be receiving a Federal
Pell Grant.
Marshall Scholarships allows recipients with US citizenship to study for a
period of two and in some cases three years at graduate or undergraduate
level at any university in the United Kingdom, in any discipline leading to the
award of a British university degree.

6. Where would you like to travel to for your study abroad experience and why?
For my study abroad experience, I would love to travel either overseas or to the
islands. I believe these places have so much more to offer than just a regular
study program. It would be an opportunity for me to learn about different
cultures and get to interact with various people.
7. Does A&T offer this as an option? If not, then what would be your second choice
destination?
A&T offers a Caribbean Dance program in Kingston, Jamaica.
