    For installing cylinder liners and


    pistons, it is absolutely essential
    to measure the piston protrusion
    and liner protrusion based on
    manufacturers instructions.

    The fitting dimensions of


    series OM 500 vary substantially from those of engine series
    OM 400. Non-observance may
    cause vital damage to the engine.

    Recommendation
    The specified piston protrusion is normally to be found in
    column 7 of the Piston Catalogue
    and on our CD ROM.
    For measuring, please use the KS
    dial gauge bracket 50 009 882
    (small) or 50 009 883 (large) as
    well as the KS dial gauge
    50 009 884.

    The piston protrusion "C" is the


    distance between piston top edge
    at the top dead centre and the
    sealing face of the engine block.

    The liner protrusion is


    measured with the liner in
    pre-tensioned condition.

    C= 0.27 - 0.61 mm

    Liner protrusion
    specified by manufacturer:
    B= 0.245 - 0.315 mm

    In order to eliminate the influence


    of the piston gouging play, it is
    essential to measure in the direction of the piston pin.

    Measure the cylinder liner protrusion at 4 measuring points. The


    difference between the individual
    values must not exceed 0.02 mm.
