FSU is better than SFU. In an FSU, the fuse can protect against faults in the switch as the fuse is located before the switch. In an SFU, incoming power can only connect to the switch side, not the fuse side. An FSU has the incoming power connect to the fuse first, then the switch, then the load. An SFU has the incoming power go to the switch first, then the fuse, then the load. FSU is preferred when cartridge fuses are used.

FSU is better than SFU.
The fuse is totally isolated from
supply in off position. Can be mounted in any configuration as incoming and outgoing can be connected on either side. In SFU the incoming can be connected only to the switch side and not on the fuse side.
SFU =Incomer> switch >fuse> load unit, FSU =Incomer> fuse>
switch > load unit.Actually FSU is better as it protects against fault in switch also.SFU is preferred if bare open fuse wires are used, as fuses can be replaced without opening at the origin.FSU is preferred when Cartridge type ( HRC)fuses are used.
What is the basic difference between an Isolator,
Switch, Switch Fuse Unit or Fuse Switch Unit and a Circuit Breaker? All the four are mechanical devices. The Isolator and Switch Fuse unit of Fuse Switch Unit are manually operated devices where as a Circuit Breaker can be either manually or electrically operated. An Isolator can merely establish the circuit, that too under no load. It can not establish or break any load current, whereas a switch can make or break an electrical circuit under rated load current. A Switch Fuse Unit or a Fuse Switch Unit also functions like the Switch, but can interrupt the power supply by blowing the fuse in case the connected load draws excess current or when a short circuit occurs. A Circuit Breaker also interrupts the power supply when excess current flows through the circuit or when a short circuit takes place and it is designed to trip with internal or external sensitive devices. Since a Circuit Breaker is designed to make as well as break a large amount of power, it is widely used to protect an entire electrical installation, against a massive short circuit current or current drawn in excess of its rated capacity.
Fuse FSU Switch Unit SFU
Its a switch with
Fuse ( Fuse Unit Moves )
Its a switch with
Switch Fuse. ( Fuse is Fuse Unit stationary)
When the current exceeds limits in the
circuit, fuse blows out and saves the equipment from damage. When the current exceeds limits in the circuit, fuse blows out and saves the equipment from damage.
It is Switched Fuse Unit. It has one switch unit and one
fuse unit. When we operate the breaker, the contacts will get close through switch and then the supply will passes through the fuse unit to the output. Whereas in Fuse Switch Unit there is no separte switch and fuse unit. There is only fuse unit which act itself as a switch. When we operate the fuse unit will close the input and output of the breaker.
Fuse switch have a feature drawback that though switch is in
ON state, one can replace the fuse i.e when one side of fuse is live. However, in case of switch fuse unit, fuses gets completely disconnected from power supply from both the sides / terminals.... which is a safest method if fuse replacement is required.
