Triage all patients entering the emergency department using a severity scale. Provide
complete care for up to six patients with a wide variety of acute and chronic complaints
including emergency resuscitative, stroke and cardiac care needs. Work independently as
well as with a team approach. Supervise up to seven staff RNs and ancillary staff. Work
with various practitioners such as MDs, PAs, NPs, residents, interns, medical students,
and other interdisciplinary team members such as volunteers, social workers, radiology
and lab technicians, pharmacists, cardiology technicians, and respiratory therapists.
Assist in maintaining safe staffing levels. Assign nursing care based on patient
needs/anticipated needs and skill levels of staff. Perform all aspects of physical and
psychosocial nursing care. Actively teach patients and/or families and significant others
to meet immediate and long-term health promotion goals. Assist in the orientation of new
personnel as necessary, including volunteers. Act as the Womens Health Liaison for my
department. Educate staff regarding appropriate and available care and resources for
women veterans. Assist in creating and ensuring policy development, implementation,
and care is provided for the best women veteran outcomes. Participate in all performance
improvement and quality assurance measures.
