JOINT CONSULTATION CONTROL INFORMATION

EXCHANGE DATA MODEL
This course introduces the Joint Consultation, Command & Control Information Exchange Data
Model, (JC3IEDM), developed by the Multilateral Interoperability Programme (MIP)

Course Overview
The course provides a comprehensive look at the main constructs of the JC3IEDM, considering the
model's relevance to the wider C2 community. It also explains how it can be used for information
exchange. Where necessary, the course can be tailored in content to meet specific requirements
or student profiles.

Duration
3 days

Audience
Anyone, from end-user to systems integrator, requiring an understanding of the JC3IEDM. No
prior experience of data modelling is required

Course Content

Introduction to MIP and its relationship to the JC3IEDM

Principles of C2 integration and the role of JC3IEDM in information exchange
Introduction to database replication and MIP data exchange mechanisms
Overview of relevant Entity Relationships (ER) modelling concepts and modelling notation
High level overview of the model, looking at key functional areas
Detailed examination of the constructs of the model including independent and dependent
entities, legal values, business rules and information integrity
Look at new features covering improved functionality for Joint Services. Key differences
between the JC3IEDM and earlier versions such as LC2IEDM and C2IEDM
Use of the model to represent various real-world scenarios
Explanation of the concept of Operational Information Groups (OIGs) and their use
Physical implementation issues
Likely future trends
