R&B History

The document traces the evolution of R&B music over several decades from the 1940s to the present. It started as an offshoot of jump blues in the 1940s that emphasized vocals over instruments. Major R&B artists in the 1950s included Ray Charles and Ruth Brown. By the 1960s, R&B incorporated soul music elements and diversified in style. In subsequent decades, R&B incorporated influences from funk, disco, hip hop, and neo soul, gradually blurring the lines between genres. By the 2010s, R&B incorporated more electronic elements and production techniques while still focusing on themes of love and relationships.
