What’s new in Plimmerton?

Plimmerton Residents Association Newsletter

August 2009

The big spring clean

Sunday September 6th from 11am till 1pm
Put a ring around this one … everyone welcome!
We’ll let you know the gathering places around Plimmerton … just
arrive and you’ll be given gloves and rubbish bags.
Afterwards all helpers are invited to a sausage sizzle generously
provided by the team at Palmers Garden Centre.
Bring the dog … on a lead, and the kids.
Thanks to Keep Porirua Beautiful and Porirua City Council for
their support.
Seal and penguin alert! Sunset Parade and Moana
Road … please slow down!
Please drive with care along the waterfront as little blue penguins
and baby seals have been found trying to cross the road. One little
seal was gently shooed back into the water safely last week by
concerned residents.
Friendly safe neighbourhoods
We have the core of a great communication network in our area …
and we could do with some more coordinators to pass on
information to neighbours … it doesn’t take much time or effort.
The idea is to make our neighbourhoods safe and friendly …
meetings and other formalities are not necessary. Just get together
once and record each others contact details. Arrange to cover for
each other when someone is away and report any concerns. If you
are willing to co ordinate a group of 8-10 houses in your street
please ring Cheryl Hood 233 9545. She will give your group
useful information to help protect your property and reduce your
chances of becoming a crime statistic.
Sutorius snafu
In our last newsletter we confused our Sutorius’s. Anton is the
legendary fire fighter about to receive a double gold star for 50
years service to the New Zealand Fire Service. He continues to
serve Plimmerton as a volunteer fire fighter (City Life July 15 has
the story). His son Tony is also a fire fighter based in Plimmerton.
Anton’s brother and his son have also served our community as fire
fighters. Great work all the Sutorius family … and congratulations
to Anton.

agreed to sponsor seats … we will be in touch with you to discuss the
location and style of your seat during September.

Mana Little Theatre 50 year celebrations roaring

success
Last weekend more than 120 past and current thespians and support
crew partied up to celebrate 50 years of entertaining Plimmertonians
with a variety of dramatic and musical productions. Bravo!

Safe streets
Our streets should be safe for school and kindy kids, working people,
parents with pushchairs and toddlers, cyclists, skateboarders and
scooter riders, grandparents with their grandchildren, families walking
dogs, joggers and walkers and people with disabilities. Report
dangerous drivers on *555 or on the Police website. Police will follow
up and deal with persistent offenders.
