2. For calculation of SA, please refer to 403.3.2 of B31.4-2012. Temperature ranges for restrained and unrestrained
systems are based on what is mentioned in 402.5.1 and 402.5.2 of B31.4-2012 respectively. All allowable stresses
must be less than Ultimate stress (SU). For unrestrained system: SA=f(1.25*(Sc+Sh)-SL), here it is assumed that f=1,
Sc=Sh=2/3SY.
3. Refer to Appendix A of ALA.
4. It is checked only in restrained system. User can check it in unrestrained system.
5. Y is defined as ovality.
6. In combined stress calculation, it is assumed that SL=|Fa|-|S H|+|M/z|+|FA/A|. If it fails, user can check the
combined stress by correct sign of stress of |FA/A|.
7. In effective stress calculation for a pipe at road (Table 403.3.1-1 B31.4-20012), longitudinal expansion stress,
longitudinal and circumferential hoop stresses resulting from internal pressure and circumferential hoop stresses due
to external pressure are combined to reach an equivalent stress.
Disclaimers

1. The calculated stresses in this sheet may not encompass all analyses which are required in a real engineering
practice. For instance, buoyancy, earthquake, landslide, mine subsidence analysis have not been considered.
Moreover some buried pipe analysis such as a unrestrained part of a buried pipe needs to be analyzed by a finite
element methods.

2. The formula and methods which are used in this calculation sheet are based on those mentioned in the technical
papers on the WWW.CALCSTRESS.COM website. User must be aware of the applied method's restrictions.

3. The owners of CALCSTRESS.COM cannot guarantee the completeness and accuracy of any information
including formula and methods applied and used in this datasheet. It has been designed for training only. It may not
be complete enough for a professional service. So, it must not be used for any professional services. CALCSTRESS
IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES, OMISSIONS AND ERRORS ARISING FROM USING THIS
CALCULATION SHEET.

4. This sheet content may change without any prior notice.

5. Users are highly appreciated if they let CALCSTRESS know any problems or mistakes in the application.

6. Users knowledge about the proper valid range of inputs and the methods limitations is necessary.
