A Musical Nativity

Script by Saint Gregory The Great Catholic School

LINE-UP OUTSIDE OF THE CHURCH:


Grades 1, 4, 6 and 7 enter from back of church
Grades K and 3 enter from left door (as looking at stage)
Grades 2 and 5 enter from right door (as looking at stage)

Musical Number 1: Carol of the Bells (Traditional) K - 8 th


NARRATORS 1-11/ MARY and JOSEPH: 8th Grade ANGEL: 3rd Grade

Once this song ends,


- ALL Narrators go to Crying Room, where they will be stationed
for the rest of the concert. (Mary: MORGAN, 8th. Joseph:
DONOVAN, 8th)
- Kinder, 3rd and 5th Graders to the Window Room
- 4th to the 4th Grade classroom
-Pre-School is already in their building
- 6th + 1st to their own classrooms: 1st grade pick up 6th on the
way back
- 7th + 2nd to the 2nd grade classroom
-8th to their own classroom after they sing
Narrator 1 (TREVOR, 8th): Imagine the stars in the sky.

Narrator 2 (PAUL, 8th): The countless constellations and the sprawling


Solar system.

Narrators 3 (TYLER, 8th) : And among it a little planet called Earth.

Narrator 5 (GEORGE, 8th): God made all of those things, and all of the
people, and all of the inhabitants on our planet.

Narrator 6 (Claire, 8th): Just over two thousand years ago, God came
down to be with us, to save us, and to show us how life should be lived.

Narrator 7 (MAX, 8th): He could have built a palace for himself. But he
did not.

Narrator 8 (KATE, 8th): Instead, God chose to send his Son to be born
among the forgotten, the overlooked, the poorest.
Narrator 9 (SOPHIA, 8th): This is the story of how Jesus came to be with
us. The story of his birth.

Narrator 10 (CHARLOTTE, 8th): The story begins with a young woman in


her home. (Mary enters.) Her name is Mary. She was from a town called
Nazareth, and she was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph.
But, to God, Mary was very important. So important that God sent an
angel down from heaven with a message for her. (Angel enters.)

Narrator 11 (JACKSON, 8th): But Mary found it difficult to understand why


the angel came to see her. She was just an ordinary woman. She was
worried what the angel meant by her greeting. Seeing that Mary was
scared, the angel said

Angel 1 (Owen, 3rd): Dont be afraid, Mary. God is very pleased with you.
You will give birth to a son, and you will call him Jesus. He will be called
the Son of the Most High.

Mary: I dont understand. I am not yet married. How can I have a son?

Angel 1: The power of the Holy Spirit will give you a baby. People will call
him the son of God.

Mary: I am a servant of God. I will do whatever he asks. I believe it will


happen as you say. I will be the mother of Jesus.

Musical Number 2: Mary, Did You Know (Scotty McCreery) 8 th


MARY/ JOSEPH: 8th Graders NARRATORS 12-15: 4th Graders

Mary (MORGAN, 8th): Oh, Joseph! Can you believe this news?

Joseph (DONOVAN, 8th): This is most wonderful! But, Mary, we must go


back to my hometown of Bethlehem. The Emperor has decreed that all
people in this kingdom return to their birthplace to register for the
census. It is quite far away. We must begin the journey at once.

Narrator 12 (ANN, 4th): Because Mary was engaged to Joseph, she also
had to go to Bethlehem. To save her aching legs, she rode on a donkey.

Narrator 13 (JULIA, 4th): During her journey, Mary was nearly ready to
give birth to her baby.

Narrator 14 (ALEXANDER, 4th): Although tired and weary, Mary and


Joseph traveled for many days, across many miles.

Narrator 15 (CHASE, 4th): They went from Nazareth to Galilee to Judea,


and then on to Bethlehem.
Musical Number 3: A King is Born Today (Tom Inglis) 5 th/ 3rd
NARRATOR 16: 7th Grader INNKEEPERS: Kindergarten

Narrator 16 (NICHOLAS, 7th): When they arrived in Bethlehem, they


knocked on every door in the town, looking for a place to stay.

Mary and Joseph: Knock, knock, knock. Do you have any room at your
inn?

Innkeepers 1 and 2 (LUCAS and GWENDOLYN, Kinder): We are sorry, dear


friends. But, there is no room.

Mary and Joseph: Knock, knock, knock. Do you have any room at your
inn?

Innkeepers 3 and 4 (GRACE and GABRIEL V, Kinder): We are sorry, dear


friends. But, there is no room.

Mary and Joseph: Knock, knock, knock. Do you have any room at your
inn?

Innkeepers 5 and 6 (AIDA and JUDE, Kinder): We are sorry, dear friends.
But, there is no room.

Mary and Joseph: Knock, knock, knock. Please help us. We are about to
have a baby. Do you have any room at your inn?

Innkeeper 7 (MADISON, Kinder): I am sorry, dear friends. All of my rooms


are full with guests from across the country.

Innkeeper 8 (CARSTON, Kinder): But, we can offer our stable out front,
where all the animals are kept!

Joseph: Thank you so much! Well take it.

Mary: Thank you. We are most grateful. At last we have a place to stay.

Narrator 16 (NICHOLAS, 7th): So, Mary and Joseph went to stay in the
stable. It was a very difficult place to bring a new life into the world. But,
Mary and Joseph made the best of it.

Musical Number 4: The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy (Cedarmont)

NARRATORS 17-22: 5th Graders ANGEL 2: 3rd Graders
Narrator 17 (SHAWN, 5th): When the baby was born, they wrapped little
Jesus in some warm blankets.

Narrator 18 (THOMAS, 5th): They didnt have anything for him to sleep in,
so they placed the Son of God in a manger.

Narrator 19 (KATIE, 5th): As she looked at the baby Jesus in the manger,
she knew He was the most precious gift of all.

Narrator 20 (KATE, 5th): Meanwhile, in some fields nearby, a group of


shepherds were keeping watch over their flock.

Narrator 21 (DANIEL, 5th): It was nighttime and they were surprised - to


say the least - to see the angel of the Lord appear before them.

Narrator 22 (MICHAEL, 5th): The glory of God shone all around them.

Angel 2 (GRACE, 2nd): I bring you news of great joy! Good news for
people across the whole world. Today, in the town of Bethlehem, a Savior
was born. You will find a baby in a stable, lying in a manger.

SHEPHERDS: 1st Graders SHEEP: Kindergarten NARRATOR 23: 2 nd Grader

Shepherd 1 (SOPHIE, 1st): Now, what shall we do?

Shepherd 2 (RAYMOND, 1st): Lets go to Bethlehem to find the Savior.

All Sheep: Baa! Baa!

Shepherd 3 (HENRY, 1st): We will go towards to bright star!

All Sheep: Baa! Baa!

Shepherd 4 (MJ, 1st): Lets hurry!

All Sheep: Baa! Baa!

Narrator 23 (KATHLEEN, 2nd): When they had seen the baby Jesus, the
shepherds glorified and praised God.

Musical Number 6: Rise Up Shepherd and Follow (Cedarmont) 4 th


NARRATORS 24-26: 6th Graders

Narrator 24 (SAVANNAH, 6th): From many miles away, three Kings, called
the Magi, saw an unusual new star in the sky, and knew that it told of the
birth of a new king.
Narrator 25 (WILLIAM, 6th): They walked a many miles to go visit the baby
Jesus.

Narrator 26 (WYATT, 6th): With them, they brought very special gifts to
bestow upon the new child.

NARRATOR: 6th Grader WISE MEN: 3rd Graders

Narrator 27 (SADIE, 6th): Each of the Magi gave Jesus a precious gift.
They were filled with joy and happiness.

Wise Man 1 (BRADYN, 3rd): Because you are the King of Kings, I bring you
gold.

Wise Man 2 (SARAH, 3rd): Because you are the son of God, I bring you
frankincense.

Wise Man 3 (BLAKE F, 3rd): Because you the the Savior of the World, I
bring you myrrh.

Musical Number 8: The First Noel (PTX) 7 th/2nd


NARRATORS: 7th/ 2nd Graders

Narrator 28 (AJ, 2nd): This is the story of Jesus birth according to the
Gospel of Matthew.

Narrator 29 (JOSH, 7th): May our hearts be filled with happiness and joy
during this Christmas season.

Narrator 30 (KAYLA, 7th): Thank you for coming to our Christmas program
celebration! Please Join us in singing our closing song Go Tell It On the
Mountains
