INT. RUBYS BEDROOM - MORNING
RUBYs room is empty. She is packing her last belongings in
a box.

CU - picture of Ruby and her mother.

Her boyfriend HUNTER knocks at the open door to get her
attention.
HUNTER
The car is loaded.
Ruby does not reply, Hunter walks over to her.
HUNTER
You okay?

He sees the picture.

HUNTER
You know, she is very proud of you.

RUBY
(packs the picture)
Out of all people, Why her?
HUNTER
Im sorry.

RUBY
Its not your fault.
HUNTER
I just wish there was something I
could do to make you feel better.
(Takes her hands in his.)
RUBY
You being here, makes it better.
(takes a deep breath)
I just, I miss her so much.
HUNTER
I know. It was unfair for her to
die.
My dad is doing everything he can
to find out who did this.
RUBY
But, it still wont bring her back.
All I have now are the memories. He
even destroyed that vase that she

loved so much. All the fresh smell
is gone now..
Hunter hugs Ruby.

RUBY
She was the only family I had.
HUNTER
You still got your grandmother. Im
sure shell be glad to see you
again?
RUBY
I havent seen her since I was
seven. Not after my dad walked out.

INT. LIVING ROOM - FLASH BACK - EVENING

Ruby is SEVEN years old. She is playing with her DOLLS.
Footsteps are coming down the stairs. Ruby turns around.

The front door opens.

RUBY
Daddy? Daddy where are you going?

Her father stops in the doorway. We do not see his face.

RUBY
Daddy?
The door closes.

EXT. PORCH - A FEW MINUTES LATER

Ruby and Hunter comes out the front door.

Ruby is now wearing a RED JACKET. Hunter lifts the last box
into Rubys CAR.
RUBY
Well, this is it.

HUNTER
Are you sure you dont want me to
come with you?

RUBY
Yes. If you did I wouldnt let you
go back.
They kiss.

Hunter breaks away from her when he sees a man across the
road looking at them, but he runs away.
HUNTER
Did you see that guy?

RUBY
(turns)
Who?
HUNTER
There was a man over there.
(points)
I swear Ive seen him before.
RUBY
Well its a big neighbourhood.

HUNTER
(looks suspicious)
Yeah. yeah, your right.
Hunter walks over to his CAR - PARKED behind hers, and gets
a PLATE from the backseat.
RUBY
whats this?

HUNTER
My mum made it. Your favourite
cake. And Im sure your grandmother
would appreciate a housewarming
gift.

RUBY
Thats nice of her, make sure to
thank her for me.
HUNTER
Of course.
(Nods)
And this, this is from me.
He gives her a POCKET KNIFE.

RUBY
A pocket knife?
HUNTER
Never know when you might need one.

RUBY
(tease)
I dont need a pocket knife to
protect myself.

HUNTER
Please just take it.
RUBY
Okay, if it make you feel so much
better.

Ruby takes the pocketknife in her back pocket. She places

the plate in the passenger seat.
RUBY
Im gonna miss you.

Ruby and Hunter embrace and share a last kiss. She gets into
her car.
HUNTER
Call me when youre there.

INT. CAR - AFTERNOON

Ruby drives on the motorway, with loud music. She is looking
at the signs, but she is getting lost.

Ruby takes the next exit to a PETROL STATION.

EXT. PETROL STATION - AFTERNOON

She sees a man, named BORIS - having trouble with his car a
few feet away. She overhears his conversation with one of
the WORKERS.
WORKER
They said they could be here
tomorrow morning.
BORIS
Tomorrow.. That to late.

WORKER
Im sorry sir, there is nothing
more I can do.

INT. PETROL STATION - AFTERNOON (CONTINUOUS)

Ruby walks inside. The BELL on the door rings. She walks
over to one of the free tills.
RUBY
Hi. I seem to have gotten a bit
lost. I was wondering if you could
tell me the right route to
Liverpool?
We hear the bell again. Boris walks inside.

WORKER 2
Im sorry, I dont think I know the
route to Liverpool.
BORIS
Did you just say Liverpool?
RUBY
Yes, do you know the way?
BORIS
I do.
Ruby is waiting for him to answer.
BORIS
In fact, Im going to Manchester,
but my car broke down. I could show
you the quickest route if you gave
me a lift?
RUBY
umm..
BORIS
Please, I wouldnt have asked if I
wasnt desperate.

RUBY
um. okay..
BORIS
Really?

RUBY

BORIS

EXT. PETROL STATION - AFTERNOON (CONTINUOUS)

Ruby and Boris step outside.

BORIS
Thanks again.
RUBY
No problem.

BORIS
Im Boris by the way.
RUBY
Ruby.

They shake hands.

INT. CAR - AFTERNOON (CONTINUOUS)

Ruby and Boris get into the car. Boris sees the plate on his
seat.
BORIS
Mmm.. whats this delicious food?
RUBY
Oh, my boyfriends mum made for me.
BORIS
Looks good.
RUBY
Yeah, she is a pretty good cook.
Ruby moves the plate to the back seat.
And they are of.

BORIS
So first, fallow the signs to M42.
A few minutes pasts.

BORIS
Must be nice with the summer
holidays huh? Of to visit someone?

RUBY
Yeah, my grandmother.
BORIS.
By yourself? Your parents didnt
want to join?
RUBY
No. unfortunately.
BORIS
Any reason why?
RUBY
(takes a deep breath)
My mums dead.

BORIS
Oh, right. I heard about that.
RUBY
(Turns)
How could you? We just met.

BORIS
I read about it in the papers. I
recognized you from the picture.
RUBY
Right. I should have figured.
BORIS
Was she nice?

RUBY
Who?
BORIS
Your mum.

RUBY.
She was great.
(Smiles - remembering)
She had a big obsession with vases
though.

BORIS
Yes, I remember that. The
house always smelled of fresh
flowers.

Ruby looks at Boris suspiciously. She is getting nervous.

BORIS
Your mother was quite beautiful.
You look like her.
Ruby stares in shock at Boris. She forgets that she is
driving. She is about to drive into another lane.

BORIS
(takes the wheel)
Hey, watch out.
Ruby catches her breath. She focuses on the road.

BORIS
I didnt mean to frighten you. Im
sorry. I.. I didnt mention
anything before, but I knew your
mother. We went to school together.
Im so sorry. I havent eaten
anything all day. I just get a
little.. of edge... when Im
hungry.
RUBY
(nods)
Oh.
BORIS
I didnt mean to cause any trouble.

RUBY
Its fine. Its just, my mom never
mentioned you.
BORIS
No. We werent to found of each
other.
Ruby is getting uncomfortable.
BORIS
Would you mind if i took a slice
of that cake? It just smells so
good.
RUBY
Feel free.

BORIS
Thank you.
Ruby takes the next exit to a service station.

RUBY
I just have to go to the bathroom.

She walks of, leaving Boris alone.

INT. TOILET (CONTINUOUS)

Ruby stops by the sinks. She splashes some water in her face
and takes a deep breath.

EXT. SERVICE STATION - A FEW MINUTES LATER

Ruby walks outside. She looks over to her car, but Boris is
gone.
Ruby runs into her car and locks the doors. She catches her
breath.
On her phone, she has a voice mail from Hunter.

HUNTER
Ruby.. You remember that man I told
you I saw on the streets? I did
recognize him.. Ruby, please call
me when you get this. Its
important.
Ruby replies with a text. "Hi, stop worrying. Im almost at
my grandmothers house".
She continues driving.

EXT. GRANDMOTHERS HOUSE - EVENING

Ruby arrives at her grandmothers house.
She brings with her one of the boxes.

There are no lights on.

She calls her boyfriend, while looking for a KEY. It goes to
voice mail.

RUBY
Hey, its me. Just wanted to let you
know that i made it safely here.
Think my grandmother is a sleep, so
wont get to catch up with her
before tomorrow.
Talk to you soon, love you.
Ruby finds the key under the doormat.

INT. GRANDMOTHERS HOUSE (CONTINUOUS)

Ruby does not turn on the light.
Ruby steps into the KITCHEN

There is a figure with his back against Ruby.

RUBY
Grandmother, its me. Ruby.

He does not reply.

RUBY
Maybe I should turn on the light
for you.

BORIS
(tries to sound like and old
woman)
No..
Ehm. My eyes arent so good
sweetie.
RUBY
Oh. Im sorry, can I get you
anything.

BORIS
No Im fine. Just wanted a cup of
tea.
Boris is still standing with his back to Ruby, while he
turns on the KETTLE.

RUBY
You are quite taller than I
remember.
BORIS
Its been a long time darling, Im
sure it is just your memory playing
tricks on you.
RUBY
But your voice, its also
different.
BORIS
As I said, its been a long time.

The hot water is finished, and Boris struggles to find a

CUP.

RUBY
Are you sure you dont want me to
turn on the lights?

BORIS
Yes. Im sure.
(looks trough all the cupboards,
until he fins a cup).

RUBY
Alright, well Im just gonna go of
to bed, so if you could tell me
what room..
BORIS
Wait..
(voice goes back to normal)
There is something Ive been
meaning to tell you.
Boris grabs a KITCHEN KNIFE and turns around. Ruby drops her
box.
RUBY
You?
BORIS
yes. Its me Ruby.
RUBY
I dont.. why...?

BORIS
The job didnt seem quite finished.
RUBY
Mum..

Boris smiles. He aims the knife at her. She ducks.

Ruby runs out into the LIVING ROOM. Boris fallows.
Ruby turns around, and neglects the TABLE in front of her,
she falls over.

She stumbles on to the floor.

Boris stands over her. He aims the knife again.
Ruby manages to crawl away. But the knife cuts trough her
jacket, and tears up her arm.

Boris pulls her by her hair.

Ruby manage to grab the pocketknife in her pocket. She stabs
him in his foot. He releases his grip.

Ruby runs UPSTAIRS.

She opens the first door. It is a BEDROOM. She locks the
door.
Ruby looks around - where to hide?

She opens the WARDROBE. She is about to scream, but covers

her mouth. Inside lies the BODY of her dead grandmother.
Ruby hears footsteps in the stairway.

She runs over to the window. She tries to open it, but it
wont. She takes her grandmothers CHAIR and throws it at
the window.
Boris tries to open the door.

BORIS
Ruby? Please come out.
Ruby throws it again.

Boris begins cutting into the wooden door.

Ruby finally breaks the window. A thousand of glass peaces
shreds.
Ruby climbs onto the windowsill. She looks down onto the
grass.
Boris gets his hand trough the shredded door, and opens the
lock.
Ruby jumps.

EXT. GRANDMOTHERS HOUSE (CONTINUOUS)

CRACK - Rubys arm is broken.

She sees Boris starring down at her.

Ruby runs. BLOOD is dripping, creating a trace. Ruby runs
towards her car. She gets the CAR KEYS and tries to open it.
She is shaking.

Boris comes out the front door looking for her.

BORIS
come out, come out wherever you
are.

(CONTINUED)

Boris is only foots away from Ruby. He sees the blood. Walks
towards the car.
He steps closer and closer to her.
Ruby crawls into the car, but Boris lifts her away. She
screams and kicks, trying to get away.
Boris places the knife at her throat.
Ruby breaths heavily.

BORIS
Ive waited years to see you again.
RUBY
Please. Let me go.

BORIS
Dear little Ruby. I cant do...
BANG - theres a gunshot. The knife slits a small cut trough
Rubys skin, before Boris releases his grip.

Boris falls to the ground.

HUNTER
Ruby? - Ruby are you okay?
Hunter and Ruby run towards each other and embrace.

RUBY
Hunter.. How?..
HUNTER
I saw his picture in my dads file
at home. I had a feeling something
was up, so I brought one of my
dads guns.
Ruby looks at the lifeless body of Boris.

RUBY
Give me that.
Ruby takes the gun. She shots Boris in the head.

BANG.
 14.

INT. GRANDMOTHERS HOUSE - NIGHT

The POLICE show up.
Ruby and Hunter stand in the doorway.

The police bring out the grandmothers body.

POLICE OFFICER
Did you meet him before today?

HUNTER
I saw him just before Ruby was
leaving Winchester.
RUBY
I gave him a lift..

POLICE OFFICER
Did you know he was the son of the
diseased.
RUBY
What?

INT. HOUSE. - FLASHBACK - EVENING

RUBY
Daddy? Daddy where are you going?
Her father stops in the doorway, he turns around. We see
his face.
RUBY
Daddy?
Boris leaves. The door closes.
CU of seven year old Ruby. Fades.

INT. GRANDMOTHERS HOUSE - NIGHT (CONTINUOUS)

Fades into - CU of Ruby, as she realizes who the killer was.
