1. Teacher picks out possible difficult words in the story and then teaches the meanings.
These words are proud, boasted, irritated, evaporate and confidence.
2. Teacher will teach the meaning by asking the students to match the words with the
correct meanings (refer to Appendix 1).
3. Next, the teacher will also highlight words in past tense such as had, met, was, saw and
ask the students what they mean.
4. Then, the teacher distributes the short story (refer to Appendix 2) and asks the students
to read it aloud.
5. After that, teacher and students explore the story together. Teacher will ask about the
characters, the setting and what happens in the story. For examples; who was the
arrogant one?, why did the boy take off his cloak?, why did the sun challenge the wind?.
The students are expected to answer in past tense.
6. The teacher will also ask questions related to the characteristics of the wind and the sun.
For examples, what did the sun do? What did the wind do? What did the boy feel when
the wind blew? The students are expected and are guided to answer in simple past
tense. For example, the wind blew the boy.
7. Next, the teacher provides pictures of other weathers such as lightning, rain and storm
and pastes them on the board (refer to appendix 3).
8. After that, the students are grouped into 5 groups. Each group will get an envelope
containing characteristics of lightning, rain and storm (refer to appendix 4). Then, they
need to discuss in their groups and decide which weather the characteristics belong to.
9. The teacher then discusses the answers with the students.
10. Then, each group will be given a few sheets of coloured papers, magic pens and a
ribbon.
11. In their group, they need to write a short story based on the story learned. However, the
characters need to be changed to other weathers. For examples, lightning and rain,
storm and lightning, storm and rain, sun and lightning, and also wind and storm. The
teacher will guide them.
12. Then, they bind the papers together using the ribbon provided.
13. They may decorate their work according to their liking.
14. Finally, all the groups present their work in front with the class. The group with the most
creative story and with correct past tense used will be rewarded.

Mr. Wind had always been very proud. He thought that he was the greatest of all

things in nature.

One day, he met Mr. Sun and boasted, I can even blow the clouds away! Can

you? With that, he blew at the clouds to show Mr. Sun.

Mr. Sun stared smilingly at Mr. Wind and said, Oh, this is only a small

matter when compared to what I can do! You see for yourself. I can make the

water evaporate and become clouds.

When Mr. Wind heard what Mr. Sun said, he felt irritated. At that very

moment, they looked below and saw a boy who was wearing a cloak walking along a

path in the countryside.

Mr. Wind had an idea of how to show that he was greater than Mr. Sun.

With great confidence, he challenged Mr. Sun. he said, Whoever is able to make

that boy remove his cloak is greater.

Mr. Wind started first while Mr. Sun hid behind the clouds. He blew as hard

as possible. Every time he blew harder, the boy clung on more tightly to his cloak.

He was unable to make the boy remove his cloak.

Next was Mr. Suns turn. When Mr. Sun appeared from behind the clouds,

the Earth became brighter and warmer.

Soon the weather became so hot that the boy could not stand the heat any

longer. He quickly took off his cloak to cool down. Mr. Sun turned to Mr. Wind and

asked, Who is greater now?
