Cracks were discovered in the welding of the Lebus grooving on the drawworks drum. The cracks were repaired by grinding out the welds and re-welding according to appropriate standards and procedures.

Cracks were initially found on side A of the drum. After further inspection, cracks were also found on side B. Both sides had the cracked welds ground out and re-welded.

The inspection and repairs were carried out according to API standards and procedures. Welding procedures from the OEM and Crosco were followed. NDT using MPI was performed and certification provided.

EMSCO 602 - INSPECTION REPORT

Section 1 - Introduction
Cracks had been discovered on the Drawworks Drum during rig up. These were NDTd to confirm the
severity. It was apparent that the cracks were in the weld that secures the two half shells of the Lebus
grooving, as opposed to the Drawworks drum itself.
The primary objective of this inspection was to confirm that the repairs had been performed to a satisfactory
standard, and that all necessary procedures had been adhered to.

Section 2 - Methodology
Derrick Services Limited (DSL) philosophy is to set the standard in offshore and onshore inspection services
in order to provide a safe work place for all personnel engaged in operations involving drilling structures and
hoisting equipment. This basic principle has been implemented for the inspection of the Drawworks on
Emsco Rig 602.
The following current applicable standards are used as reference documents and form the basis for the
reporting criteria: API, UKOOA, DROPS, LOLER, HSE, PUWER and Derrick Services Limited Business
Management System.

Section 3 - Scope and Objectives

As noted in section 1. above; the objective of the inspection was to confirm that the repairs had been carried
out professionally to API standards, and that the equipment was fit for purpose.

Section 4 - Report Summary

Once on site I discussed the issues and works undertaken with the Toolpusher. I reviewed photographs of
the different stages of repair, along with certification and procedures.
I can confirm that the work has been carried out to a satisfactory standard, and that all necessary
documentation is in place.
After the initial cracks had been discovered on side A of the Drum further NDT was performed on side B.
There were indeed negative indications in this area. Subsequently full repairs were also carried out on this
side.

Section 7 Conclusion.

The repairs to the Lebus grooving on the Drawworks Drum have been carried out professionally and to a high
standard.
A suitable cool down period was allowed after welding prior to the final MPI being performed.
No negative indications were noted after the final NDT inspection.
The welded areas have been professionally dressed to match the original profile of the grooves.
All certification and qualifications for welders, welding electrodes, NDT inspector and for final MPI has been
provided by the client.

As such I am satisfied that the works carried out conform to API 4G, and that the Drawworks Drum is fit for
purpose.

Please note:- This is a field report only. Full documentation and certification will be supplied from DSLs
Head Office after review by the Inspection Department.
