Responsibilities
THIS IS A 12 MONTH FIXED TERM CONTRACT

We are looking for an experienced Project Manager to oversee the construction and operation of a portfolio of energy generation
companies.

The role will report to the Senior Asset Manager (Thermal Technologies) within the Octopus Energy Asset Management (OEAM)
team. This team manages over 250 energy generating companies, currently valued in excess of 2Bn and delivering revenue in
excess of 230m pa. The operational activities which are relevant to this role include Anaerobic Digestion (AD), landfill gas,
biomass combustion and gas engine reserve power. The majority of the companies are owned by investors in Octopus managed
funds or companies and do not have any direct employees. Construction and operation of the generation assets is outsourced to
various EPC and O&M contractors.

The Project Manager/Monitor will liaise and work with contracted third party project managers to monitor the performance of EPC
and O&M contractors across a range of thermal technologies but with a primary focus on gas engine reserve power assets in the
first instance.

Supported by in-house asset management and financial teams, the Project Manager/Monitor will liaise closely with third party
project managers, EPC, and O&M contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget, and resolve issues as they
arise. He/she will support the asset managers in ensuring contracts are enforced and any relevant claims pursued. Whilst this role
is principally oice-based, regular travel to sites and partner oices within the UK will be required.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in the construction management of grid-scale energy production plants with
significant civils works, or industrial/process facilities of similar complexity. He/she will likely have an engineering (mechanical or
electrical) qualification and have experience both working autonomously in a senior position and in managing contractors.
He/she will bring significant experience in strategic problem solving. The candidate must be well organised with good
prioritisation and project management skills to manage both site specific and portfolio wide issues across multiple companies;
understanding the financial, legal and technical considerations. They will have good commercial acumen and exceptional
communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style from site technician to boardroom level. He/she will be
comfortable managing and negotiating complex issues and disputes in addition to understanding and balancing a number of
dynamic and interdependent commercial and regulatory drivers within the projects.

Essential Job Functions

Define and monitor KPIs and support commercial decision making throughout construction and operational
phases of power plants, including supporting the asset managers in getting approvals from the relevant
investment committee if necessary
Work with third party project managers and/or EPC and O&M providers to ensure time and budget targets are
achieved and that appropriate commercial structures are in place.
Liaise with third party managers, construction and operational contractors of the power plants to monitor
progress and performance throughout the life cycle of plants; pro-actively identify potential issues ahead of
time
Maintain and enhance the risk monitoring and H&S framework in place, designed to identify any issues early
and resolve them in a timely fashion
Support the training and development of the Octopus team
For certain technologies act as project manager on construction/improvement projects

Qualifications
Experience required:

The Project Manager/Monitor will be required to have significant knowledge of power plant construction, or
transferable skills from managing other complex, heavy industry, turnkey infrastructure projects in order to
monitor contractors eectively.
Knowledge of typical project documents (including O&M and EPC contracts) and experience of managing the
needs of project finance providers
Deep understanding of CDM Regulations, CDM projects execution and management
Knowledge of wider HSE practices and requirements and experience liaising with HSE, Environment Agency
and other regulatory/statutory bodies
Understanding of fuel, quality, supply chain and process optimization
Technical knowledge of HV and LV electrical works including experience working with DNOs on connection
would be advantageous but is not essential
Technical knowledge of reciprocating engine technology would be advantageous but is not essential
